Fuel Probs

I own a 2000 dodge dakpta 3.9 v6 magnum and when driving on the interstate at high speeds i get engine surges, with the tach hand jumping up and down about 200/300 rpm's. I've changed the plugs and wires but no help. My next step is to drop the tank and change the fuel filter, because I bought it used and don't know if it has been changed and now it has 79,000 miles. Any help would be deeply appreciated and Thank you in advance.

how fast? Is this an automatic? if it is and it's a increase in power surge, sounds like it could be dropping out of OD/high gear... I only had a fuel filter problem on a manual, with that, it was a sudden drop in power as i hit the gas, then slowly bringing it back up. don't know if its always that way or not...

It happens between 50-70 mph and if it does it at lower speeds I'm not noticing it. It also can't be the overdrive problem because at 70 mph it has already shifted into od and it is smooth other than the fuel system feels like it is not getting the right amount of fuel at times it is like it's only getting half the fuel it needs but enough to keep it running.

Hmm... Not so sure about that with it only acting up at high speeds. I'm assuming when you loose power, the rpms go down and not up? If it's as sporadic as it seems, i think maybe you got a sensor acting up... I'd take it to autozone and let them give you any codes the little computer thing might be putting out.
