ok, changed plugs, plug wires, ignition control module,& coil packs. Hooked up the obd2 reader, erased all the codes and started the car up. It ran good for about 10 seconds then it started misfiring again. read the codes and now I have a p0101 code. which is a "maf/vaf" code. It will not stay running. :screwy: You can smell heavy fuel in the exhaust. If anyone has anymore suggestion I am open...... Is there any way to jumper some of the switches to test them let me know. It is acting like one of the sensors is telling it to dump full fuel, but I am not willing to buy every single sensor on the car.

is your maf sensor plug connected? and/or are the prongs on the connector bent and/or the wires secure? (assuming a 97 has a MAF sensor)

disconnect your y-pipe on your exhaust and try to start it if it runs fine like that your cat is bad. the m.a.f. should not be bad remember it can easily be something else downstream causing the problems while the computer thinks it is upstream. good luck
