Hi everybody, I've been busy with school and basketball lately so I haven't had much time to draw. But this is my latest work.. and yes it's another car. Hope you like it.

btw, sorry about the scan. It came out really grainy.

I am in awe of the work on this forum. I am truely humbled.

Alex, I went to you site. all of your art is unbelievable! I was very impressed on teh piece you did with the car done in 'color shifting' paint (I think dupont calls it 'chrome illusion') any hoo I have never seen someone be able to capture the look until now! Good job!

yet another amazing piece.
if this is a bad scan, then I cant even imagine how realistic this piece must look in person.

Hey Alex!

Amazing work. As all your other works.
Your reflections are amazing.

I hope you don't get up set with me if I ask you what techniques do you use. Cause i know you use reference pictures, all your drawing just looking at Google you find the exact same picture. But how do you transfer the original image to the drawing with so many details.
Your free hand drawing are years away from those one you draw using photos.

This Camaro original picture (http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-1960-1969/1969-Chevrolet-Camaro-SS-blu-j-sy.jpg)

Other example:
Your site Harley Davidson (http://www.geocities.com/stuffbyalex/1975HarleyClassicLowRiderColor.jpg)

The Original Harley Davidson found at Google (http://www.harley-trading.com/Bikes/lowrider%2075.jpg)

I realy hope you don't be up set with me. I'm not saying any thing about using reference pictures, cause copy as you do is more than a talent. But might be any tips you can give us.
My english is "more or less" so forgive me if the message might sound "bad" or unpolitely ok?!

Bye!

Well i think alex is using a grid, and it's actually not so hard drawing with grids, i mean to get the proportions right, its just for that u have the grid ;)

Alex is a real talent, and he takes a lot of time to his drawings.

Grid and alot of time. And the drawing is Sweet.

I would also be interested in buying a print

Thanks for the comments everybody.

Magliano: For the drawings without reference, I only take around 30-45 mins max usually. When I use a reference and the grid method, it can sometimes take up to 20, even about 30 hours to complete a drawing. My reference picture is always smaller than my actual drawing (maybe about 25% smaller), so i'm not copying 100% from the ref pic. I also do a very detailed line drawing before i start shading or coloring.

Drumcat and Civichic: I'll pm about the prints.

Thanks Alex!

Thanks for understand! I realy didn't mean to say that you copy the drawings, your shading technic is awesome!

I'm working hard to draw better. But talent is a talent.

Keeps us update to your drawings.

Thanks

Thanks for the comment Magliano.

I thought I'd post some sketches on this thread instead of starting a new thread. I'm doing a bunch of bodykit designs using small ref pics from magasines, which is why they're all at different angles. I'm also practicing proportions and freehand sketching with these. Any c&c is appreciated

The nsx looks like the best of them and the 34 ford needs bigger wheels and the rest are good to.

Amazing Alex!

Really thanks for understanding. In any moment I was trying to criticize you. I was trying to understand, and who knows, maybe learning.

Your free hand sketches are improving a lot.
A person, who draws a camaro like that, even if it takes forty hours, can sure do nice sketches in a few minutes. And you are sure doing great free hand skeches

About them.
They are all amazing. Some notes are.
The imprenza is has "cartoon" look, but a very detailed one. The one a liked most.
The Honda S2000 is too "flat". And the Ford wheels are too small.
The others are really great!

Keep us up with your drawings ok!
Thanks!
Magliano

Hi Alex,

The camaro looks great. I am not trying to nit pick, just being honest. The front wheel/tire has some ellipse problems, but then again you don't go over yours w/ ellipses templates, so it is a very good tire/rim. The top part of the rim and tire are a lil off (major axis) too pointed on both. Fallow the outer tire ellipse around the rim and focus on the space b/t the outer rim ellipse (I am talkin side wall).

You got skills man. I seems you are doing more sketches, getting bored of reproducing realistic graphite? :) I know I did. I still have 3 silvias and two mustangs unfinished (realistic). You might ask your self this, I know I did, "What is the point of copying photos and trying to make them look real?" The amount of time spent is a lot plus you just have a copy of the photo. I know it is cool for someone to say, "Wow that is a drawing!" but I got tired of doing shading and trying to simply copy cars. You know a human copying machine. I am not knocking you these are thoughts in my head about me and I am just sharing.

Anyway,

Take care Dude.

The sketches look awesome.

THAT SUCKS... wow i could never mean that let alone say it with a straight face. That's so good it makes me question your methods

Thanks for the comments guys.

Lostprophets: nice to see you back!

Al: thanks for your honest critique. As for doing more sketches, I think everyone that does long drawings taking over 10-15 hours needs a break once in a while. I also want to practice freehand and from imagination also, just so I don't become "fully grid method dependant" :)

your freehand pieces are really improving fast.
are those actuall kits or just somthing you designed out of your head?

stuffbyalex
03-05-2005, 01:03 PM
Thanks Kanibal. Those kits are designed by me, but I use references for the general proportions of the car.

Here are some more:

Celica and RX-8 and the rear kit for the NSX. I sort of ran out of room on the NSX, so the back is a little short/squished
http://img87.exs.cx/img87/6254/nsxrearcelicarx81qe.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)

S15 silvia and a veilside 350Z. No, I didn't design the 350z kit although I wish I did
http://img87.exs.cx/img87/3741/s15and350z9go.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)

BTW, the right side of the front bumper looks pieced together... that's because it is.

Thanks for looking
