I finally found the truck i'm going to keep after buying and selling 3 in the past month i went and drove it today and made him an offer a couple of things i'm worried about are the air conditioner works but is making a weird buzzing sound inside near the fan. Also the operating temp after driving it around for 15 minutes stayed at about 140 to 130 i don't know if this is a bad thing or a good thing does anybody have any ideas on this the thermostat might of been taken out please respond with comments heres the truck it looks alot better in person thanks

That's about the temp my truck runs at, always has. The buzzing is probably just something rubbing against the fan. Can be easily removed, but it won't cause any damage if you leave it.

thanks for responding so you don't think if say i bought another thermo and got it up to about 160 to 150 it would do better. Also as you turn up the speed of the air for the ac it gets alot louder it's not really a buzzing sound its between that and a ringing sound any more info would be appreciated thanks

sounds like a bearing in the blower fan. I would change the themrostat Mine usually runs about 170-190. i also have a 195 stat in though. I think my truck ran like shit when it had the 180 stat in it; but that is IMHO.

I looked while I was driving today, and mine runs closer to 160.
Does that truck get up to temp quick and then just stay there? If so, the owner probably just put a lower temp thermostat in it.

It gets up there quikc and just stays there no matter if i'm on the highway or on a country road. He said he didn't know anything about it i'm just wondering if maybe he removed it to hide a possible problem with a head to allow it not to heat up so much any more info on this would be helpful thanks

could be the gauge isnt calibrated quite right and you are actually running a bit hotter than it says. Does the heater put out hot air like it should?

it puts out some hot air but not like it should i'm pretty sure its correct but i just don't wont to hurt it by running it to cool i heard before a lot of damage is done at engine start up because its not hot enough for the oil thanks

I replaced my theromostat with a 140 or 150 back in 1998 when I was having some radiator problems. I was in college and didn't have the money to be replacing parts so I put a lower thermostat in to give me time to find some water if it started to run hot. It has been in ever since with no problems. That was about 100,000 miles ago.

you are right.....engines have much more wear and tear while running below operating temperatures, hence the theory of warming a car up by driving slowly right after starting (as I do), as opposed to letting it sit while warming up. I suggest buying the correct thermostat and installing it, even before buying the truck (if you havent bought it yet I mean). He shouldnt have any opposition to that, I don't think.

Unless I'm climbing a long hill or carrying a heavy load my 90 Suburban (exact same engine as your truck) runs 155 degrees according to the temp gauge. Don't know how accurate those gauges are, but it hasn't hurt my truck, original engine did almost 400,000 miles.
