How/When did you get into street racing

[COLOR=black][FONT=arial] So all you guys talk about racing and kills and stuff. Well im only 14 but i can drive a standard yet don't have even a permit! But I was wondering how you guys got into and when you got into and if you guys r the " big guy " in town. Also if you want add some stories.

I got into it because I was already way obsessed with organized forms of racing(NASCAR, F1, you name it) so it only seemed logical for me to do something that I loved to watch...I'm not the biggest fish in my pond, but everyone definitely knows who I am(referred to as "the kid with the maxima")because I have the only maxima in town that races, and compared to everyone else, I'm pretty quick(goes to show you just how small the scene is in my town), so I have a fair bit of clout.

Yea, I live in a small redneck town. so on w friday or staurday you see TONS of trucks most mudded up from mudding. But if you know the right people you can go where they are going to race and see some races. They rnt the best out there but we have some nice cars.

When I was about 10 years old. My father, brother, and mother were driving to my cousins house. It was a friday night..so we normally weren't out then because my mom worked friday nights..but she was off that night. So we were driving to my cousins house. When my father pointed out a trans am and a mustang and they were racing. Then he exclaimed "now that Z28 is gettin' in on it!" And I was just watching...but I was so excited. It made my heart beat really fast and I was like..in awe. Everything just made it so appealing. And still today when I see/am involved in a race..I still get those exciting feelings. It's what keeps me doing it. But I really got into later when I got a learners permit. I liked accelerating. Not really going 80mph+..I just liked flooring it and feeling the acceleration. And one day...I was in our 93 dodge intrepid ES..which had some sort of suspension problem that made it so easy to spin out in. So when I learned it would squeal wheels obnoxiously loud...I'd drive around looking for sports cars to do that by. Just to see them get on it. And I remember one of my first races in that car was against an early 90s prelude. It was a really close race and I was so excited and thrilled..I was hooked. And that kind of sums it up. The end.

That's cool. I've seen a couple races upclose but i remmeber what really got me into it. One day after gymnastics practice my dad came to pick me up in my aunt's
1996 mitsubishi eclipse gt-s and i didn't think much of it until we got on the main street and he stops in the middle of the road because he saw a camaro be hind us coming once it passes us he floors it and in 3rd we fly past him( it was a convertible so the top was down) and then that night he told me about his street racing stuff. But i loved the feeling of the air going past me at 100 mph and the feel of the acceleration.

I have always been into racing since I got my go-kart. That was when I was six. Ever since then, everything I have driven, I have attempted to max out.haha So it just hasn't stopped yet.
I believe anyone will race as it is the human drive to compete. IF you like going fast, and someone else does as well, a race is inevitable.

In all honesty, after seeing the Fast and the Furious...I wanted to do that, to have a hot looking fast ass car. Not drive under trucks or anything, but to race nad have a fast car and what not.

And for me it's about the whole culture of it. It's a great bonding thing, its fun to do, and its rewarding to see that increase in your 1/4.

Honestly the culture has never appealed to me. I can hang out for about 20 minutes. And then I want to race/cruise around. Unless it's a good conversation about cars...but man I hate listening to some guy bitch about his problems. Especially when I'm only talking to him because I raced him/wanna race him. The culture isn't what I'm in it for..I don't need friends. I need a good thrill. But that doesn't mean I'd never be friends with someone from street racing and stuff. I've met some really cool people racing/hanging out at meets. It's just..not what I look for. But if I find it..hell that's cool too. Ya' know?

when i got my first car, and still have it (2000 v6 mustang) i
instantly loved to drive fast. when i drove my car to school everyone loved it, except a couple of my friends thought it was a POS for being a V6 and an auto. anyway my friend got an eclipse gs manual and gave me crap all the time. so i raced him.. :naughty: :evillol: i beat his arse
from 0-115 by 3 cars. it shut him up, gave me respect, and now i love racing.

This thread is full of noobs
Sadly.... The Fast and The Furious is what got me started :grinno:
My dad and I used to race around all the time in the old TA. The day he handed it over to me was the greatest day of my life. I'll admit that I turned into one of those domestic assholes for a while, but learned my lesson quickly when some Neon (yes a Neon) beat me down coming around a corner. I floored it, and then he slowly walked me.
But, that's what got me into tuning. I wanted to know how things worked inside my engine, and I figured the easiest way to start was buy a Civic. One of the most simplest motors was that of a Civic. Plus the thrill of beating a V8 is a thought that always goes through my head day after day. Someday I will, regardless if it takes years or not  . L8...

I've always loved car ever since I traded in my Ranger Rick subscription to a Road and Track subscription when I was a wee lad. I love being able to see cars, and know the specs etc. My obsession with street racing probably started with F&F as well :disappoin
After that movie I would get my brother in his lightly modded grand prix to race people. I was really into his car until I got my own . My first race came via my buddy who had a honda civic with a D16 who had a header, header back exhaust, and Intake. I was at JIB, and I told him to race my car which I said was a 1992 sentra se-r. He laughed allowed in front of his friends, and swore that he'd smoke me  Honestly I thought I was going to get beat, but I still challenged him.
That wednsday night we met up in an industrial park, and he got owned twice. It felt so good to put him in his place (I kissed my car that night). I'd say a big push for me to race is getting people to realise that their are cars that you shouldn't talk shit about because theres a chance you might get beat. BTW many people talk shit about the ol' se-r so it makes it easy. When I get my sr20det I'm going to be learnin some people real good. :evillol:

first day i was able to drive without my mom in the car, i got into racing.
i just love speed, doesnt help that my dad use to street race all the time when he was young, and all the story's he would tell me........
like i said, the moment i got into a car, must have been a week and i was out racing in a damn 4 cylinder plymouth sundance against my cousins mercury mystique, or however you spell that. i had been racing far before the movie fast and furiuos ever came out. i was just exited that a movie was made about the stuff that we had been doing for so long. though it wasnt very realistic, it was still a good action movie.
the summer after that movie, i tell ya, we had about 100 cars a weekend at the races but after that movie, we had more like 200 cars a weekend. and a lot more recks

basically when I was really young (12-13) I saw the car of my dreams, it was a 3000GT and it triggered my interest in imports. I was also pulled in by my uncle who is 3 years older than me. Seeing fast and the furious did get me a little more interested but with the knowledge I have now I just can't help but laugh at the hollywood reproduction of the street racing scene.
My friends pretty much scoff at my taste in cars though. The friends that are into racing prefer domestics and the other guys are the ones who got brand new cars and don't understand why I would want to get a used car and spend money on a car with a lot of miles on it (to these guys a lot of miles is about 25,000).

I'll also admit that TFATF had some to do with me. I really liked how the supra sounded. But really I wanted to understand how these guys were getting all this power out of engines 1/4-1/2 the size of what I was accumstomed to at the time, which was 350s, 454s, 427s ect. So I began to read and here I am.

Well, i'll be honest, i wasn't big into cars until i was about 20. After i broke up with my ex (whom did me real wrong) i drove a 88 crown vic and it got me from a to b. i didn't think too much on fast cars and the like because i didn't think i'd ever get one. (depressed killah at this point in life) when i turned 20, i still had the V, but i raced my friend in his 01 black v6 stang. Whooped him. something about going fast and from a-b in a quicker pace made me happy (twisted, but true) then i saw F+F after being hassled about not watching it at work (at winn dixie... evil company) so i was like "wow, car's can do that and not be in nascar?"
Then i got in my wreck with the suv, lost my V. Picked up the J30 and noticed it was faster than the V.... started racing it.
i guess it was just my time to discover it. ever since then (been about 2 years) i've loved cars and have been constantly researching them. I love doing body work on them and just tuning them. I can't wait till my neighbor let's go of the 240sx for me to fool around with (he's letting his son drive it now....) and i've called dibs. (i do his computer work, so he said when the time comes, the 93 will be mine during a trade for a computer...)
that is if his kid let's go of it.
either way, i say don't knock racing till you've tried it.

An older friend of mine bought a 2000 3.4 porsche 911 c2. I just loved the power of that car. 3 years ago I started driving and I truly became addicted. I would race my poor slightly modified metro 4cyl vs. a '98 civic ex. We would play chase. I have more money now so i'm looking into audi tts' but the concept is still the same.

I was born into it I guess. My dad always told me his race stories he was in and some with his friends. He told me a whole lot about his 59 Corvette that was a nasty car.
The thing that got me was my dad and I were in his 90 5.0 on the turnpike going home when a 99 + Spyder Eclipse was giving us a hard time trying to race. Dad finally dropped it down a couple of gears and shot off. The Eclipse tried to catch up but it was useless. Soon about a mile or two down the road the guy did a ricer fly by at about 100 mph.
After I saw that the F&F came out and I thought everybody on there was punks like the Eclipse driver (soon found out we call these people ricers). After I got my license I noticed there were a whole lot of "punks" on the road. It soon became a fun pass time messing with them and that's how I got into racing.

My mom used to go racing with my older sister... and with the guy she was dating at the time. She had a '70 Nova with a mild 350. He had a '72 Chevelle with a Mild 350 as well.
Her car was faster, cause it was lighter. Plus he was a dink.
Anywho, she never took me out racing... then one night she did something to piss me off, dont remember which, but she asked me what she could do to make me feel better. She wanted to take me to the Arcade... well, I said take me to the street races.
She said Ok, well we never went... but she'd get on it in the Nova while I was in it. Usually while I was taking a drink and I'd get soda all over my face and up my nose. She thought it was funny... I didn't.
Ahh Bonding...
I don't particularly 'street race', I just like goofing around in cars in general. I don't have to be going 100mph to enjoy the car.
