I am sure people have heard of the 1996 mitsu spyder gs eclipse, the 2003 rs eclipse, and the older galants they all have 4g64 engines, almost 0 companies make parts for our cars...
Luckily I was able to find a header and down pipe from
www.rpw.com.au
and I also found a 5zigen exhaust from truckperformance for my car.
However I need some help finding the right cold air intake, also is this an easy install or a hard one, has anyone gone through it that can give me a list of steps or tips?
thanks,
Sean

LOTS of companies make shit for NT eclipses. get a cold air intake off ebay they are all the same. you can use parts for a 95-99 Non turbo mitsubishi eclipse or eagle talon.
check out the faq on the main eclipse/talon/laser page theres a whole list of vendors. you can also check out 2gnt.com or 4g64.com

your right a lot of companies make parts for the NT (non turbo) eclipses however there are two types of non turbo eclipses...
4G64
420A When they say NT (non turbo) it means 420a not 4g64
http://www.dsmtuners.com/model-guide/modeldetails-eclipse2gb.php shows the engine codes and car models.
my main concern is how hard is it to install a cold air intake kit, and what are the steps for our 2g car

if you have two hands and half a brain you should be able to install a intake quite easly.

ahhaha that made me laugh! I agree however I have seen on some cars there is an air sensor on the bottom of the car or an air box or something that needs to be removed, that is my main concern do we have these on our 2g's ?

It's very easy, just take your time looking at how the stock airbox or any other lines running off of it sit and then remove it. When you start installing the new AI it will all come together for you.
I don't need one myself but my favorite cold air intake would probably be the AEM V2.

lol i missed that you were a spyder. sorry about that. check out 4g64.com and the faq on the main page. you can use 95-99 spyder parts. dont bother spending the extra money on a aem intake. its just a piece of pipe. i would recomend a k&n filter and a catbacck exhaust as your first mods. most people dont get a big gain from the whole intake anyway.

ok for a intake i would go to home depot, buy a 5 foot section of 3 inch pvc pipe, a couple 90 degree elbow, and couple 45 degree elbows. Add a saw and some pvc glue to the mix and you well on your way to a home made intake that will produce the same numbers as aem! It just takes a few minutes of planning (ok this one this long, then this connector, ect ect ect). as far as hook ups, theres all sorts of ways to improvise. just make sure you get it all connected somehow and you should be fine. good luck. peace..
edit: if you dont like the classic white pvc with small blue lettering in barious spots style, you can pick up some sort of specialty engine paint or maybe make it a oem match tot he rest of your car with a can from paintscratch.com. Another good place is called paintworld or something. Search it on google or yahoo. Thats were I got the oem color can paint for my eclipse and it matches great! When the weather warms up I am going to document the exact measurements and parts list for a true cold air intake consisting of home depot parts. Im talking with water shield and all. Ill post it later this summer if theres any interest. I'm sure there are dozens out there already. peace

well I don't have a spyder so what I make would probally be a little bit off of what your looking for. It's really a deseign as you go kinda deal. The cool thing about doing it this way is that really, you can do whatever you want with it. Put it were you want it to go and what not. Just buy lots of elbows in diferent shapes. Its better to have too many and make a return trip to take them back then too have it almost done and be missing a connector you need. peace

One of the best intakes to get for the spyder is the secret weapon intake form weapon-r. You can find some on ebay or order them directly from weapon-r.com. I am not sure how hard the install would be on it since I havent done it to my own yet. I was having the same probles as you locating an intake for the 4g64 that I have in my 99 spyder as well. after looking around the secret weapon seems to be the best option it sell for about 230-240 bucks. I know several people that use them on their spyders and seem happy with them.

TRUEECLIPSE he he he... your in michigan... drive to minnesota/roadtrip...i'll do the home depot job ... of course with your help.... so you can learn... dude.. PVC is really easy to use!!! and if you happen to throw a measurement off... the shit is cheap so starting over from scratch won't dent your wallet.. ok well a little ding anyways!!! lol
If you are going to make it yourself I would suggest building it from the engine side working your way out to the airfilter... The best advice-PLANNING
AND you won't have to spend $240.... just pay me about $100 :naughty: :screwy: LMAO

There are some differences between the home made pvc version and the version you can buy at a shop. namely appearence. I wold gladly pay the extra for the look under the hood especially if you are into doing shows and other events of the sort. Also these new and more expensive intakes are designed to create 2 chambers of airflow within the intake. One traveling faster than the other which creates a senario similar to a forced induction system on a smaller scale. It has been tested and proven that these styles of intakes produce 3x as much air flow as the straicht pipe and filter intakes of old. Its all about what you're looking to get from it. You know the old saying you get what you pay for.
