I'm considering purchasing a 97 SSEi w/165k on it. Any reason I shouldn't? Any good/bad things to look for? Thanks.

Drive it... Pay close attention to the trans.. shift points, shift speed, noises. enginges are good for over 200K+ no prob. But the transmissions and electrical are weak points.
you can't really judge the electrical, but can get a good idea from the overall appearance of the car. Check to make sure all electrical stuff works.
Do not buy if you can't drive, and at speeds over 50mph. Have to make sure the TCC solonoid is working OK, engageing smooth with no vibration or noise. With any luck, it'll already have been rebuilt as they usually go out around 130K (but some last longer).
Also, ask for all his records..... See if he's ever changed the oil in the Supercharger, that's a big problem if he hasn't.
Of course, all this is in relation to the price of the car. Good Luck
Also, do a search in the bonneville forum here for 1997, the posts that come up will give you another lead as to what to look for.

Thanks a ton. I do know motors, and I have an excellent source for repairing trans, I just wasn't sure if that many miles on a sc'd vehicle was a good idea. I've been a mopar turbo nut for a long time, and I wouldn't consider a car with this many miles if it was a 2.2t = without assuming I had to rebuild it. The car is on a lot, and it's only $3500. I'll follow your advice and beat it a bit. Thanks!

I just wanted to say thanks again. I drove it this am, and the motor\trans was sweet. The suspension was shot however and it had that electronic damping system. I assume thats spendy, so I'm probably going to pass on it. The power was very impressive...
