it all depends on what you want are you a sound quallity guy or do you just want something to rattle the trunk. also on the amp kit the kit should tell you how many amps it is rated to handle. just remember you get what you pay for so if you go cheap don't have very high expectations.

O sorry didn't know you were a girl lol I say guy just in general. but anyway you shouldn't run that sub off just you cd player you will burn it out because it is under so muc stress tryong to push that thing plus you will try to turn t up loud to try get the sub loud and the distortion you get from turning the gain up that much will ruin the sub, plus it won't sound anywhere near as good as it sould. not shure why the speakers don't work with you new head unit make sure that you have the right harness and you hooked the wires up right to the new harness. I would need more info or look at it to know why it would do this.

if your looking for a system i would go with a fresh start there might be a problem in your wiring..check all your wiring that would go to the battery and speakers etc. for the sub u just need to find a mono amplifier rockford has some nice amps that are affordable and as far as speakers go i would tell u to go for pioneer a 95 cavalier has 4 x6 in the front and 6x9 in the rear and i would also check and make sure the head unit is hooked up right because there could easily be a problem if one wire wasnt done right i would request some proffesional assistance if i was you i have knowledge of car audio but i dont know what the situation is with your car probably just a bad wire or bad connection its usually something simple

Hey, if you are in the northern ohio area there's a guy I know unloading some Directed Audio 12's in a box with an amp for only $350 that would really make that Cav slam!!!!

Here is a website i have bought all of my sound equipment off from: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-VbEGse2d5wX/cgi-bin/autoinfo/autoinfo.asp?vehicleid=0&typeCH=home&vb=Y&lp=%2FS-VbEGse2d5wX%2Findex%2Ehtml%3F%26id%3D0%26vehicleid %3D0&cm_re_o=TkB_zkEzM*kwufEzM*ctzfubflFYgzy.
Sry bout the long adress but they can help with the sounds issues.
O and i don't know if u already bought a deck but i reccommend Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine(if u have $$), for subs i recommend Kicker Comp VRs (sound good for $150 ea.) and for an amp u can get an MTX, Rockford, or Kicker (again kinda pricey for the kicker). I have a Pioneer 8500MP (not made ne more) kicker 6.5" and kicker 7x10's all of which sound very nice. Hope this helps.
