Intake question?

Can anyone tell me if there is actual proof that the dirty intake manifold, more specifically where the TB is, will take away from performance? The reason I ask this is because I just went to get my car tuned up and the guy disconnected the hose from the intake manifold and rubbed a piece of paper inside to show how black it was. He said they cleaned them for x-amount of dollars. So I told him go ahead, but then I got to thinking about it. So let me know if I should go and wring this guys neck.

That can rob you of a bit of performance, and it's best to keep it clean.
Personally, I consider myself a do-it-yourselfer . . . and wouldn't pay him schitt.
Got to Pep-Boys, get some gum out carb cleaner . . . read the directions . . . get busy.
Actually, on RE-reading your post, I take it you already agreed to have him clean it . . . he's not ripping you off . . . unless he's charging like $75 dollars or some schitt like that.
Enjoy.

Nah, he charged me like 30 bucks to clean it. It's not like I noticed a whole heap of difference. But I just wanted to make sure this wasn't just some bs to make more money. I would do it myself, but unfortunately, time is a luxury I don't have, work and all. Thanks for the reply. Guess I'll let him live.:D

Yeah.. it;s legit... they actally have a product you can buy... I cant remember the name.. but it's basically a foam... you pull off the intake and you spray that crap in there... fill it up.. make sure you open up the throttle so you can spray it in there...
after a while it dissolves all the gime and soot built up in there.. then you run the car and let it burn it all off.
