Fuel tank,.... thingie?

I have a 97 Jimmy with the V6 engine. I recently took the tank down to replace a fuel pump and accidently broke a little nipple thing where a rubber hose hooks up to it. Its on the tank on the opposite side of the pump. The pump is at the very back of the tank, and this thing I broke is at the very front. It's just a little black round thing that comes out of the tank and hooked up to a hose, but I have no friggin Idea what it is or how to take it off the tank or if they even sell a replacement for it. does anyone know what it is or what it does or how to take it off? thanks.

Sounds like you now have to replace the sending unit as well.

I think that you have broken the fuel tank vent to the evap canister solenoid. I also believe that it is epoxied to the tank and is "part" of the tank assembly.

I have broken a couple off myself (One cause I didn't know it was there :eek7: , and one because I coudn't get it disconnected. :swear: )

I had luck with both by cleaning the 90 degree bend off the vent flush, drilling it out a bit, and inserting a brass nipple with barbed ends covered by a ton of fuel-safe epoxy.

You MAY be able to find it at the dealership with a photo breakdown of the tank.

Hope it works for you and hope this helps.

I haven't found anywhere that sells or gives a part number for it, so you will probably need to make your own.

Thanks you guys, I think I am just going to try and fix the thing like GMCtech said because Ive been sitting there prying on it and trying to twist it off for hours but trying not to break anything else, and the thing won't budge an inch, I don't think it comes off. Im going to drill it and see if i cant get some sort of fitting into it so i can hook it up to the hose. I've been driving the Jimmy without the thing hooked up though, will that hurt anything? Its driving well, the only thing I can tell thats being caused by that thing not being hooked up is hard starting sometimes.

Your check engine light will probably come on and tell you that there is a problem with the EVAP system, but other than that you should be okay until you can fix it.

Fixed it. It wasnt bonded to the tank like I thought it was, I just pressed down on it real hard and turned it about a 1/4 or 1/2 turn counterclockwise and then popped it out. Went to the dealership and got a new one for 20 bucks. I think i shouldve just fixed it with a fitting, wouldve been cheaper, but its fixed now. thanks for all the replies.
