I got the new Gran Turismo game and was looking thru all the vehicles they had on there and when i got to the chevys there is a Silverado SS Concept that is rated at 480hp. Now nearly everything in this game is 100% life like and all cars in it exist. so does anyone know anything of an SS concept? sure would be nice of chevy to make a truck with some real power.

I think the answer to that would be closer to never. Watched a Speed Channel show a few weeks back and they showed that truck as part of the protype collectibles that are stored away for GM. If I remember right they said it was built a few years ago when they wanted to see where the custom look could take them. This one was truely the first SS in the truck. Look at the nose, it is the 99-02 grille not the 03-up. Too bad they don't build something like this as I like it better than the current Silverado version. :2cents:

This was one of like 3-4 SS Concepts as of 99.. They have ALL continually shown better horsepower and times than Lightnings.. however The final product is the SS you see today.. A watered down, luxury truck. Go figure.. Keep looking on google and you will see the other Concepts.. that one was a unibody, and never would have been produced like that.. The one closest to production was a 385-395 HP N/A version shortbed shortcab that looked exactly like the big lux model made today. That would have been a lightning killer due to the fact that it has a much better stance, and could handle much better. Not to mention it was going to run basically stripped down to nothing but performance parts, and bench seats.. meaning a 20k price tag! I would have bought that thing the day it came out!

Yea, the concepts is a long time ago. I loved it, wish they would have produced that instead. Not only would it be helping GM, but it would almost look like nothing you've seen before for a stock truck. Very unique looking. Provided I had the funds, I would easily throw 50g's on it.

I also like the uni-body style. I think that's right. Anyhow, no gaps between cab and bed.

is it just me or does the bed seem to be shorter than 6' 1/2" ?

It could be a little shorter, but it may also just appear that way due to the unibody.

I hate it. Looks too much like the S-10:

I'm a fan of the truck. In my opinion the SS they make now is a big POS. not mention a huge disappointment under the hood. to me the looks of a performance vehicle dont really matter at all, and also a performance truck does not need luxuary features like OnStar and leather seats. They should make a high performance truck similar to the one above, but a reg cab short bed model thats pushin 500 horses. the problem was they wanted the SS to have a larger market and there fore scaled down some things and made it more "user friendly", which means more $dough and less >go.

they look like the same SS wheles they put on the ones on production model, maybe a little bigger, or with a lower profile tire.
