Bent Rim

I've got a 2000 Honda Civic Si with the Honda stock 15" 7-spoke aluminum wheels. I smacked a pot hole (gotta love Mass DPW) and have bent the inside of the rim. I put two nice bulges in the sidewall of the tire as well. I took it to my local tire shop and they claimed that they could not legally mount a new tire on the rim. As they also sell rims, I'm not to confidant in this claim. I have a couple questions... does anyone know a shop in central Mass that could repair the rim (its a small bend on the inside edge) or a good junkyard that might have a new rim for cheap? I looked around on the web but have struck out...

Any help would be appreciated.

i dont think that you should bend the rim back.. even if it is just a little bend. but if youre really sold on bending it back, make sure its exact. if its just a little off the tire will fit but the chance of flats will increase on that tire. or.. you could find someone selling the rims and buy new ones? you could go to the dealer? maybe? .... but this is just what ive heard while sitting in the lobby of discount tire.

Well the shop will not mount a new tire on a bent rim because you will have reliability issues later. Plus the shop can injure themselves if they try - since the rim is not physically sound anymore and with the tire mounting machine it could cause the wheel to explode.

Just get a new one.

check around with local welders. i live in pa and there is a welder near me, ed quay, who does custom fabrication for race cars. when i bent one of my old wheels for $30 he grinded the bend out and filled it back in. if you can find someone like him that would be your best bet.

hammer it back if it's not that bad. We do it all the time with our off-road rigs and it works fine.
