Hey everyone, im new to the forums and new to firebirds. i want a firbird, 8cly if i had the money for the car and insurance :( but i think i want to go for a 6 cyl. 5-speed. i want to try and be able to run with my friends 02 GT, he has flowmasters and intake. what can i do to get close to him? also when putting exhaust onto a 6 cly is it worth it to get dual?

for mods im thinking exhaust, intake, pulleys, headers, gears, and bigger tires in the back.. anything else? or any no's to what i said?

Welcome to the forum and try www.autotrader.com (http://www.autotrader.com/) . They usually have a nice selection for most area's. Also the local paper's should have some choices as well. Good Luck.

Youll be fine, The Mustang's are the most overated cars, the Supercharged Cobras get beat by stock LS1's (the V8s) i have a 3.8L and I still keep up with the GT's, if you got the money and you put the work into it youll def. be able to burn him, start with the basics like SLP dual intake and finish with full exhaust Headers/high flo cat/ cat back exhaust and youll be fine (if you just get a muffler and you get a flowmaster 80 series[the dual exit pipes] YOU HAVE TO I REPEAT HAVE TO PUT 2" Pipes exiting out of the muffler right away. The muffler is 2.5"s half so knock it down to 2" right away with a 2.5 ---> 2" pipe convertor ($.98 at my store advance auto parts hehe) or youll muffler will back fire and sound like a rice machine :/ ) just my 2 cents.

Supercharged Cobra's run high 12's stock, LS1 is mid to low 13's stock...I think you've overrated the LS1. (this is coming from someone that hates Mustangs)

An '02 GT runs mid to low 14's, and a V6 Firebird runs what? like a 16.0? Don't see ya catchin' up with him, ever. You'll be getting beaten by Integra's and Civics if you buy a V6. Go for the 350 or don't go for it at all. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

*Edit: Oh btw, I have a 1988 Formula 350, and it runs low 14's stock...which would run about even with an '02 GT. So don't think you have to buy anywhere near a new Firebird to keep up with his GT. Get the 350!!!

Hey sorry I believe a lot of what i read... mind you that the order of the mustangs are... from worst to best
1: mustang
2: mustang gt
3: cobra
4: mach 1
5: roush series

and i was under the impresion that, All LS1s run mid/high 12s bone stock from the factory and the 03 Cobra is a mid 13 car. (source: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t164386.html [post number: 6]

now lets take a look at this *disgusting* forum which i got my info from where stang owners are saying themselves..... the LS1 is faster then the MACH 1.... sorry if I'm not allowed to post this http://forums.stangnet.com/archive/index.php/t-399822.html
http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?p=4858261

but hey what the hell its only a mustang forum.....its pretty sad when they admit defeat

but yes the LS1 VS Mustang battle goes on forever but still i would take a GM over ford any day, and im done with this battle

O and BTW dont talk shit about my bird until you know what shes got ;) ktnxz

bottom line: you put time and money into the 3.8L she will be fast but if if you can afford insurance (for me its a pain) then go with a bigger engine.

You do know that Gtstang's Sig is meant to be sarcastic, right?.

Also no bickering. make your point without being aggresive to each other. If you can't debate a decussion without getting all worked up. Maybe internet forums aren't for you.

hay man, if you want to keep your insurance down and smoke some stangs. you should get an old skewl ride like a 78 or 79 with a 400 4 speed or even an auto. my insurance is only 279.00 every 6-months and i have speeding tickets and when i was 16 it was still around 400.00 every 6 months thats less than 100.00 a month. its been awhile but just call a insurance company to get quotes and see what you can afford car and insurance wise. plus the old one are really easy to work on it just ttakes a bit of work to find a goo deal. but if you don't want something old then go with the 99. good luck

Never talked shit about your bird, you could have turbo and NOS for all I care, stock V6's are slow is all i'm saying, and this guy would be disappointed when he spends a grand or two and still can't catch up with his buddy. As far as the Cobra vs LS1, I just researched it real quick and that's what I came up with everywhere I went, which includes magazines which I would hold more credible than people on the forum. Never meant to offend you, don't need to get an attitude with me.
