well finally I cam across a 4.6 northstar for my swap, of course I got it free so thats why i snatched it up. Im going to replace several parts, I have to replace a cam no big deal im going to put new seals, and see what I can do about putting a supercharger on it since caddy makes superchargers now. I can't wait till my 4.0 blows up lol. or if I get a aurora without an engine that will make it even better, so if you know of anyone that has an aurora with a blown motor or no motor let me know. as soon as I get started on this project I'll let everyone know how this turns out 300 hp awesome.

I would be interested in your engine swap. Do you know if the 4.0L and the 4.6L motors are that similar that they will interchange. I have two Aurora's and have had to do quite a bit of repair; transmission and the 95 and head gaskets on the 97. I do my own work with alot of help from the shop manuals. So I would like to do a swap to get more power out of a 4.0L. Good Luck and hope GM brings back OLDS.

they are almost identical engines just different bore, almost everything can swap over from the 4.6 to 4.0. I've done my research on this swap, i've talked to northstar specialist to gm engineers so i think Im pretty well in the know how to do this swap.

Did you look into the electrical differences such as the computers etc.

of course thats what gm engineers are for.

I think that would make the perfect swap probably almost a bolt-in. I would probably keep the caddy's pcm to keep the right fuel to air ratio. If you have a hard time finding an aurora you could also go with a riviera.

Im curious to see if you pull this off bullet. The Auroras are over 10 years old now. And still noone has ever done this swap. I think there is a reason why.

And no offense , but is doing all that really worth 25 HP ? I mean I have dfriven many 4.6 Northstars and there really isnt that great a difference. Definately not worth the time and money you are going to spend on this project.

Good luck though.

well just got done talking to a northstar specialist and i found out that the 4.6 and 4.0 pcm are identical and there is no reason why the engines should operate on each others pcm. So in the next few months Im getting the 4.6 ready to install with get this 30k miles on it, He also was telling me that when ppl drive the northstars slow and take it easy it messes up the engine, by letting it build up too much carbon in the engine and causing it to eat oil but if you run it hard like a race engine you'll have no problems, mechanically. So basically i've been doing this with my car and I've had no mechanical problems. so ppl drive hard.

I can't wait to get this 4.6 in, im thinking about just buying a aurora without and engine or a blown engine and just drop a 4.6 in it and keep my other one just as it is. 300 hp HELL YA then I can drop the stock super charger in it. I went to the GM dealer and they are selling 4.6's for 250, for the ones they pull out of caddies, the old ones of course cause the core charge is 250. I was looking at one and the bottom part of the block was cracked but thats all cool cause the block is a three piece block and it can be fixed. SO im making a deal with that dealer ship to get engines and I now get all parts wholesale. I think since they now know what Im talking about they know they aren't just selling a part to someone who thinks they can work on their own car. SO its like selling a part to a mechanic at a shop.

just because you have a 4.6 northstar, doesnt mean that you have 300hp. cadillac makes 2 different models of the motor. for example, if you have an SLS, that motor only has 275hp, and its a 4.6 but if you have an STS, you have a 300hp 4.6. the same is for the eldorado's. if you have the basic eldog, it has 275hp, but if you have an ETC or an ESC eldog, you would have a 300hp 4.6. the same is prolly true for the devilles, regular ones would get the 275, and the concours would get the 300. i have a 98 STS, and this is all explained in the back of the manual. I would find out which one you have before the swap, because i really dont think all the work would be worth it for 25 horses.

Also, in the year 2000, cadillac made the 4.6 motor to accept regular or 87 grade fuel. Just something to think about . i personally think the 2000 and later look a hell of alot better than the pre 2000 models, as you cant see the spark plug wires.

It would be better to have the 275, because of more torque. You won't feel the extra hp on the 300 until redline because thats the only place it puts out its power. The 300 hp was just a marketing ploy, the engine wasn't engineered that way.

275 will beat the 300 off the line every day. NOW if you have an autobahn tranny hooked to the 300 that will make up a little.
