Power Outlet

Does anyone know how to replace the power outlet on the console of a 98 beetle? Does the console need to be removed and if so, is this a difficult job?
If I wanted to replace the shifter boot and knob would this be a good time to do it?

Yes, the console must be removed to gain access to the backside of the outlet. It's not toohard & now would be the time to replace the shifter parts.
