i know theres ford guys, chevy guys, honda guys..thats me but anyway why do you guys like hyundai im not being an ass. i just think you guys are fighting a up hill battle i love the way tiby's look i will say that they are beautiful . but can they be fast , are they easy to work on , do they handle well, look to each his own. i got a friend that has a saturn and he lives buy it i dont know why but thats him not me and im glad everyone is not the same so i thank you guys for that .. but help me understand ...

very good handling car, i know many auto Xers and they love how teh tib handles,
even tho the tib is a very heavy car (for its size) it still does a great job hittin the twisties/ corners...


many people chose a tiburon for teh challenge, with the lil aftermarket support we have.. we have come a long way...
if we had the support liek a 350z does.. or even a scion TC we would be making leaps and bounds

I'm pertty much with nabisco (haha) on this one. I had a Subaru Legacy that was dying. A buddy at work, his wife just got a Sonata. After driving it, I was impressed. So I started looking a Hyundai's. Never heard of or seen a Tib until then. It struck me as beautiful. Had a great time test driving it. Then I started shopping. In Jan '04 I bought an '03 Tib (new) for $17k total. Drove it right out the door. Nothing but pure enjoyment. And the car is a looker. When you see one, you know it. The fact that there are not many on the road is cool. I didn't start modding it until about 5 months after I got it. It's just over 200WHP now and that's where I want it. I don't care that there are many other cars faster than mine. That's not what I got it for. It is a unique looking car, not a "clone car". That's half the fun of driving it. There's a good amount of power when I need it.

il stick with a honda hyundai motors are junk not saying they cant be fast but the are junk, same motor in a kia. its so much easier and cheaper to make a honda quick opposed to a hyundai. Theres a v6 turbo running around here running high 14's he said hes pushing 8lbs but for that much i would expect it to be faster. But this thread is 90% opinion so in my opinion i say go with a honda.

yeah that is what most honda drivers would say in my opinion. You'd think after this many years honda/acura motors would have more tq. I like tiburons. I think people get safety ratings confused with the cars rating. I'd only trust J D Power and Assoc. for their opinion. Cars.com in assocation with kelley blue book has the ratings i trust. You can't knock one until you try one. there are exceptions

i would rather have a car that there isnt a ton of around me like hondas and toyotas when ever i go driving i always see atleats one of them on every road

Okay a bit of history here for for the Hyundai Haters.
As much as the Hyundai haters hate to hear it, the Hyundais are really good cars. They have surpassed Honda in getting to where it is in less time than Honda did. Hyundai was the 16 largest producer in 1991 and was the 13th in 1994 and now is the 8th. It reached its 1 million car in 1986 taking only 18 years to reach that milestone. In contrast it took Toyota 29 years, Honda 32 and Mazda 43 years to reach that level.

The problem that plagued Hyundai in the mid to late 80's were basically a cause of Mitshubishi, not Hyundai. Which supplied the engine, and transmission. And yet The vehicles at that time outsold the next popular vehicles like the Nissan Sentra, Honda Civic, Subaru DUGL and Toyota Corolla. Hyundai learned from its mistakes of having other manufacturers making their parts and vehicles and thus the vehicles produced by the company have since been so well built that the brand continues to get awards left and right.

kingpin is correct in one aspect that its an uphill battle trying to get people from believing that the company is better and makes better vehicles. We owners took a chance and are reaping the rewards of having known what now seems the new owners/potential owners are finally realizing that the vehicles are top notch and offer great value. The list of recalls and problems are so small compared to higher priced and name brand models like MB, Toyota and yes Honda. But I refuse to make this a bash Honda or any brand post or thread. We all love our vehicles and as auto enthusiasts we should respect each others likes and dislikes of our vehicles. Eventually folks will realize that the Hyundai vehicles are top notch and will continue to bring out great models. Like the older slogan said, Driving is believing. Once these folks test drive one they usually like it. Racing isn't everything, even though I would love the Tib and the Santa Fe and the Sonata to be a bit faster than they are, but in time (just like Honda) we will have an aftermarket that can allow us to out mod our vehicles just like the way the Hondas and Toyotas currently are. Remember It took those two a few years to get a sizable aftermarket. Eventually Hyundai will too. and when it does, all I can say is watch out.

I used to work at a hyundai dealer il admit for the price they are pretty nice cars but the v6 doesnt have the speed of most 1.6l hondas. Yeah honda motors before 87 were pos i can see that angle toyota only had one good motor that came i the supra. I would take a hyundal over a toyota. As far as mitsu motors being good, i think the only good motor they ever had was the 3000gt vr4 motor the eclipse motors were junk. Yeah the tiburon has alot of potentional the body style is nice, i havent seen andy good bodykits yet. As far as being as bad as mustangs and civics its already that bad around here i see tiburons as much as i see mustangs and civics. Yeah they have came a long way since they brought them out but the aftermarket isnt as big as it should be. I live in maryland its 2003 blue tiburon with konig holes. It looks pretty good but damn its slow. Alot of people dont know but hyundai actually started out making shipping cranes and barges. But i can see your point they have grown fast opposed to most other import companys.

The V6 is workable. I have just over 200WHP, once I get some dyno time I should be around 220+. BTW-Hyundai is the largest ship builder in the world.

^ Plus the have the biggest auto manufacturing plant in the world which their own ships carry across the world.

What the hell is that? Damn vtec, well hey, getting 200 hp out of an engine is great at 6500 rpms...if u want it for almost a full second. The damn RSX type S and such have alot more power, but you dont get the real feel of it cuase its at such a damn high rpm and i can save $6000 in the process to beat the shit out of it.

in my own simple definition of torque, it helps pull the weight of your car faster. I guess so you get to use more of your hp faster. I think. If I am wrong correct me. I know it is more complex than this.

Im not gonna start bashing members for no reason i could sit here and bash on Tdawg all day but i have better things to do. And yeah when i worked at the dealer i did wash cars but you know what i was fucking 16.

Now i make billet performance parts and i learned about 3 months ago how to run a dyno i can make almost anything out of aluminum considering restrictions on machine size. Tdawg from what i can see you havent been a member here for more than 3 months, from what it looks like you go around looking for shit to rag on. IMO you should get your head out of your ass and learn how to use the forum. As far as pimprolla 112 i used to own a corolla big deal its a shitty sedan, but that sedan would run a 15.4 before i wrecked it. It had a 4agze swap complete exhaust header back, head work, underdrive pulley and just to much to list but thats what half my friends called it so chill the fuck out.

Im not some rich preppy boy you know what my main car is right now a fucking 89 blazer that i got for 1000 dollars i work for the shit i get i dont get loans or have my parents pay for shit i have to work up and save. Only reason i mentioned the hyundai dealership was because someone asked if i ever test drove one and working there i would have to drive the cars almost every day. Speaking of which, like nisco said, if Hyundai had the aftermarket support like other well established ones (Honda, Nissan etc, ) we would be looking at a very fast, very modified vehicle(s). Now I do not know if its because folks are weary of messing with the Hyundai warranty or not, but even with the little aftermarket we currently do have, I have heard and read that there are a lot of Tibs, Accents, and even a few Santa Fes that are souped up, and modified (performance wise).
