idea for a different drift car (again...)

so i've been thinking and i ahve another idea for another drifter that i might want to have just wondering what people here would think about it, its a chevy impala, here's a link to a perfect example of what im talking about, only problem is its automatic, and they all seem to be, but there's gotta be a way around this, just wondering what everyone thought about this idea, good or bad

with a shift kit, the automatic shouldn't be a problem, it will downshift quickly and firmly whenever you floor the throttle. Another issue is the length of the impala, the wheelbase is 116", alot of drift courses aren't made for that kind of length, but its definitely doable, look up the drift el camino for a similar setup.

I would also look at the Caprice, same car basically but cheaper, stock suspension on it is just softer, but you were gonna have to work on that anyway.

long car length + heavy chassis + soft suspensions... will get you no where close to drifting but with modifications i'm sure it's possible.

Not as easy but worth a try... i think it's good we start looking for newer cars that can be categorized as "drift capable" haha

i luv the idea but im still going to look further into it, i'll check out the impala forums, and even try looking at caprices

With enough money and a good driver you can drift anything.. the question is why? Look at the time and money that was put into the Soarer that was on D1 or whatever. They had to go as far as replacing the doors with carbon fiber ones to cut weight. I don't even want to think of what you'd have to do to get a yacht like an Impala capable. Leave those things to old ladies who will put that auto to good use on the highway at 45 mph.

Instead of an Impala SS, look for a reired 9C1(police pkg) Caprice. The 9C1 has the engine of the Impala SS, but not the looks. Since it's police-spec, some components should actually be tougher.

The biggest deal of all is that 9C1s don't hold their value like the Impala SS. I've seen Impalas still oing for $12k in my area, while 9C1s are as low as $2k.

They have tons of torque, so you can probably drift one stock. I was trying to talk a friend into getting a 9C1, too.
