I plan on getting 50% tint on my car in Minnesota, but I have alot of family I visit in Illinois. They have restrictions against front side tints. How would the law work in this situation?
thanks

I believe that you have to have the legal tinting regardless of where you are. they might not do the old razor blade thing if you're out of state, but if you're in IL a lot, you'd probably be best off tinting in an IL-friendly fashion

I used to work at a car lot that got alot of cars at auctions. Upon driving one back to the lot, a cop pulled me over and gave me a choice of either getting rid of the tint or getting a ticket. Luck for me I hade my scrapper with me.

I am planning a trip to the US, what is the laws for front driver side and passenger side window tinting? I was thinking of tinting them 30%. My other windows came factory tinted really dark. It is a black SUV.

It really depends on the cops. My windows are tinted and I've been pulled over and still have gotten no grief over them. My friend has a jetta with ridiculously dark tint...you cannot see inside in pure daylight. The only time he got a warning was when he was parked illegal 10ft away from a cop. My friend played dumb and got a warning on both offences from the cop. It all depends on the county you are in and the cops you pass. Some care, some don't. Some will ticket, some will give warnings. It really all depends on the area and the cops there.

The Laws depend on each state. CA is 30% or more visability in the front and less in the front. VA was 30 in front and 25 in back. whatever here is your answer:

im in MN and ive got 4% tint. Legal limit is 45% i think. I have been pulled over about 3-4 times since gettin it done and none of the cops have mentioned it at all.

Hey, im really feelin shitty about now... the tint law was no longer in GA until about a month ago! Thats just plain out BS. Anyways, regardless of the law, i went and got 5% all around on my white millenia. Sure enough, before i was even allowed to roll em down, i got pulled over. Got a ticket for tint and 20mph over. another 30 mins and got another 20mph over! I have a thread so check it out in detail. But my point is im frustrated at how they took off the law and put it back on and they're ticketing people left and right.
Screw them, i aint taking my shit off no matter what!

I went on a ride along with a cop and he spoted a car with tinted windows that didnt have a sticker visible so he pulled him over, he later told me if there was a sticker on the tinted window then the driver woudnt get a fine for the tints.

I live in Illinois and the cops normally don't bother you about tint unless they're looking for a reason to stop you anyway. If you've got ultra dark tint on your front windows and you're cruising around in some high crime area, they might pull you over for that, then proceed to search your car. If you have a lighter shade of tint on the fronts than in back, you probably won't be bothered because then it looks almost like the fronts aren't tinted. That's what I do. And if you're pulled over, make sure you roll your window down ASAP to put the cop at ease, and you probably won't have any trouble.

I would be willing to bet money you wouldn't have gotten a ticket or been pulled over for your tinting if you hadn't been going 20 mph over the speed limit. AND after getting your first ticket of the day and not slowing down that's just plain stupid.

Im with him. Getting two tickets in a day is just stupid driving. I dont care what the reason is. More power to you for not taking the tint off, im sure the cops will love it.
