95 sunfire 2.2 Clutch help?

I've got a 95 sunfire, 2.2 engine, and 5 speed manual tranny. I noticed a few weeks ago when it was cold outside the clutch pedal was hard to depress. Today I started to notice the clutch pedal seems to go further towards the floor before I feel any tension. Also the shifting has gotten harder. Even from a stand still with the clutch fully depressed there is sometimes a little grind well trying to put it in gear and I need to hold the shifter for awhile before it'll change gears. I tried the fluid and all seems fine is there a way to adjust the clutch?

IF YOU HAVE A HYDROLIC CLUTCH, I THINK YOUR CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER IS SHOT. WITH HYDROLIC CLUTCHES, THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT. TRY THIS: WHEN YOU GO TO SHIFT WHEN IT GRINDS,PUMP THE CLUTCH PEDAL 2 OR 3 TIMES FIRST, THEN SHIFT. IF THERE IS NO GRIND , IT IS ALMOST DEFINITLY THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER. IF IT'S A CLUTCH CABLE, THERE MAYBE ADJUSTMENTS, GET A HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL.

The clutch is hydraulic.

It may just be a case of air getting in the fluid. Take it to a local mechanic and have them bleed it and see if it fixes your problem.

Pontiac wanted $360.00 and change for a new slave cylinder. I found one at the local wrecker for $ 35.00. I've changed it,bled it, and it now shifts fine. Thanks for the replies!

did u remove the tranny to change it?

No. To change it all I had to remove was the air cleaner and battery. There was 2 nuts attaching it to the firewall as well as one nut attaching it to the tranny. All the work was done from the top of the car. To bleed it there is a bleeder attachment directly above where it attaches to the tranny. I had heard that you need to disconnect the rod from the top of the clutch pedal. This would have been a little harder so I tried without detaching it. I had no problems feeding the rod out the hole and into the slave cylinder. The whole job took about 1 hour.

If i understand this corectly this is the master cylinder that bolts on the firewall and the slave cylinder is on the shaft between the tranny and the engine....So you infact changed the master cylinder that hooked to your clutch pedal. Maybe somebody can clarify.....
