4. what symbols are unique to street racing- :thumbsdow & :flipa:
5. how would you describe the behavior of the member in the street racing culture- Stupid, unaware of surroundings, and is wreckless

1. describe street racing - racing illegally
2. in what ways is street racing unique? - it involves cars and illegal activity but isn't involved in drug dealing usually. They tend to be better financed than normal criminals and have real jobs since you can't make any real money street racing.
3. norms are considered to be rules of a culture, what are some norms of street racing? If you brag, be prepared to back it up, show respect to those who have been around longer than you, don't race on busy streets, don't do ricer fly-by's, just because they other person backed down and you passed him, doesn't mean you won. Safety is more important than winning.
4. what symbols are unique to street racing - Thumbs up on a good run, light flashing, starter signals
5. how would you describe the behavior of the member in the street racing culture - it depends on the area. Suburb kids that try to be street racers because they saw a movie behave dangerously and like drama-queen/king HS kids tend to do (getting in fights, lying, vandalizing, etc). In more developped areas with racers in their late 20's and 30's the racing is alot more responsible and the cars are usually much faster. There is more focus on the cars themselves than the "bragging rights".
6. what do you like most about being a street racer - I didn't like it, thats why I quit, in a responsible setting though you can talk to some really smart people
7. can you pick a few adjectives to summarize street racers - Teenage ones: Losers, reckless, immature
Older ones: Focused, obsessed, jaded
8. what do you think others (outsiders) think of street racing: they either don't understand it, don't care, or think they're immature and reckless because of the bad apples
9. what is important to you as a member of street racing - nothing its not a formal group, nothing defines you as a street racer

You don't race random strangers for money. But like..meeting up with one of your friends friends to race for money is okay. They're still a stranger..but yeah. If you pull up next to someone and you're all 'hey lets race for money'. 99% of the time they're not going to pay. If I race someone and they refuse to pay...or say they don't want to pay..it's cool. I just let everyone know they're a bullshitter and eventually when the word gets around no one will race him/like him/associate with him. And drdisque...thats not always true. Though most of the time teenagers are the jackass drivers..but not all of them are. Maturity doesn't only come with age.

1. describe street racing- racing on the street.
2. in what ways is street racing unique? it can happen anywhere, at anytime.
3. norms are considered to be rules of a culture, what are some norms of street racing? here are no real rule, just pretty much a code that i think all the respectable ones follow. however i personally knows tons of people who dips in and out of traffic during rush hour.
4. what symbols are unique to street racing. constant pacing, then jumping foward, tailgating, hazards, and high beams.
5. how would you describe the behavior of the member in the street racing culture. Most are cool, but the younger guys are mostly stupid dicks.
6. what do you like most about being a street racer. i get to drive a faster car then most people on the road. and when i drive by a highschool, all the kids in their civics drool over my car. lol :loser:
7. can you pick a few adjectives to summarize street racers. can't think of anything.
8. what do you think others (outsiders) think of street racing. People who are into cars thinks its cool, the people who are not thinks its crazy and dangerious.
9. what is important to you as a member of street racing. the car, and common sense, and awareness of your surroundings.

1. describe street racing: Obvisouly racing on a street or highway setting
2. in what ways is street racing unique? Unlike most types of subcultures, there isn't a real set of identifying marks. Unlike punks, not all street racers have funky hair and piercings, not all of them do drugs, the like. While you can possibly identify a racer by his car, even thats is impossible to do 100% of the time.
3. norms are considered to be rules of a culture, what are some norms of street racing? Well, there really aren't any. Becuase its a lot less 'organized' than other subcultures, its harder to have a set of rules
4. what symbols are unique to street racing? Cars, pacing, jumping, the actual race, speeding, money changing hands every now and then, 1/4mile times, tech talk
5. how would you describe the behavior of the member in the street racing culture? Well, some of the younger ones are into it lke from NSFU/2 or The Fast and te Furious. I think most of us actual start of as a street racer kinda immature, but a good percentage mature and figure out how your suuposed to act. Most street racersare very prideful of their car, there 'way of life', etc.
6. what do you like most about being a street racer? Driving fast, the feeling you get right before a race, and then the euphoria you get right after you finish a race...Im an adrenaline junkie, I love it, and I get it the most from racing
7. can you pick a few adjectives to summarize street racers? Prideful, some are cocky, very rarely humble, technically inclined, ballsy
8. what do you think others (outsiders) think of street racing? Well, I think most people think its stupid, but they dont understand it beyond two people speeding on the street. They see street racing as some sort of huliganism that involves drugs and money and theft and gangs and crap like that, all becuase of movies like TF&TF, 2F2F, Tourqe, and Biker Boys
9. what is important to you as a member of street racing? I dunno...just getting the whole adrenaline rush, and eventually building a nice, fast, respectable car.

1. describe street racing - Street racing in my opinion is the competition between two cars and two drivers to see which one is the fastest.
2. in what ways is street racing unique? Unlike other sports, there are no paper rules, no particular guidelines to follow. you don't have to have a certain car to race (i've seen Geo's and porshes run) it's a free sport and there are usually no prizes for victory besides a ego trip.
3. norms are considered to be rules of a culture, what are some norms of street racing? You are not to race through traffic, you are supposed to set the guidelines of how far or how fast before the race. You are NOT to try to pass someone and call it racing. basically don't be stupid.
4. what symbols are unique to street racing (symbols as in....)
5. how would you describe the behavior of the member in the street racing culture.... i would describe them as a inverted person whom let's the car do all the speaking. One that is calm and collective as well as very competitive. Puts more into the car than into his closet. (wears the same shoes for three years to afford a exaust system) One that knows when to stop on customization.
6. what do you like most about being a street racer. i like the oppotunity to make new friends while doing what i like to do without having to try to conform to anything. I like being able to rev the engine around fellow racers and not hear "that's stupid, why do you waste all that gas?"

7. can you pick a few adjectives to summarize street racers (smart, competitive, persistant)
8. what do you think others (outsiders) think of street racing (stupid, wreckless, dangerous)

9. what is important to you as a member of street racing (knowing that no matter what happens on the road, whether or not i win or lose, i will still be a winner among friends.
