Tamiya Racing white - problems

Hi!
I was just down in the garage to paint the lower part of the body with the TS-7, Tamiya Racing White.
I test-sprayed on the wall, and it was nice and white... but suddenly the white just "shrinked", and was almost invisible. Okey, i tought. Maybe it just reacts with the concrete wall.
But no, i sprayed the body, 2 dust coats. Almost invisible.
Then 2 wet coats (a bit too wet). Then I put it in the box. I looked at it now, and the white is almost gone, except for the very wet coat thats lying down in the side skirt. I just see the grey Tamiya primer with an almost transparent white coat.
What's the problem? Didn't i shake the bottle enough? Do i need to let it dry completely now before applying another coat? (That was the plan).

I think its not the fault of the paint but rather the grey primer. White does not cover well for a darker basecoat...
Strip the grey primer and prime it white.

I don't have white primer, and the local hobby shop can't get it, he says...
But the body is white, maybe just skip the primer there and just spray over the white body?

You don't need to prime white plastic if you're painting white paint. But there are sandable white automotive primers out there that work-generally the ones that say they are sandable work well.
Your luck spraying over the current body w/racing white w/o white primer depends on how clean the plastic is when you strip the gray primer off.
But the body is white, maybe just skip the primer there and just spray over the white body?

Well, I'll try w/o primer... just washed the body and got of the worst white paint. I hate bad masking tape!! It looked aweful!
Anyway, I'll try tomorrow. Sand down the primer and respray! :) Thanks for the tips!

i've similar prob n i'm using tamiya ts-37 pure white. for me, it's cos i didn't shake enough.... think 've to shake in a circular fashion instad of just up n down

While you don't need to prime the plastic before spraying Tamiya lacquers, it does help with adhesion. Something to consider if you are going to be masking anything. I've pulled sheets of paint off with the tape when no primer was used... - Mark
