WOT shift... 700R4

ok... here's the deal....

i want to be able to drive in OVERDRIVE (with the torque converter locked-up, on a toggle switch) with the throttle wide open. normally the 700r4 will shift back into third gear if you do anything more than 75% throttle. I want to get rid of this nuisance so that I can increase my top speed. how can this be done? would the corvette governor help? I was told that it just changes WOT shift points.
Help me out here. I'm sure there's a way of doing it.

i dont know much about automatics at all but it sounds like you wanna change your shift points? if so maybe a pc tune. i dont know much about 3rd gens either i know my 96 cant be dyno tuned so in order to change stuff like that im swapping to a 97 computer for the car then have it tuned. if yours can be tuned this way also then im sure that can make the car stop shifting into 3rd when u dont want it to. im guessing here like i said but im sure one of thease other guys who have a model like yours will know way more and can help u better than me.

I believe there is a shift kit, or shift kit accessory that allows overdrive in wide open throttle.

you cannot get rid of the WOT downshift, there is a plunger you can buy that holds it off till around 80 or 90 percent throttle i believe.

PC tuning wont help because your transmission is not computer controled,

and now i must be the mom and point out that unless you live in the midwest with plenty of strait open roads, you should really think about weather or not pushing your top limit speed is a good idea. but ill leave that up to you.

yea... third gens don't have computer controlled trannys.

where can I get that plunger? or the shift accessory kit thing? And, by the way, I DO live in the midwest were there are many wide open roads.

The store director at my job has a WRX and it max's out at 160mph and I need to be able to compete. i also just want to do it, because it sucks being limited anyway. We're kinda having a fun little horsepower war. He's has new downpipe and exhaust, boost valve (now 18psi instead of 8), new computer and some other stuff (he should be at 360hp). But that's not important.

I want a plunger that will hold it off till 95% throttle!!! But seriously, where can I find that??

ill look into it, but you could check the B&M homepage, they list all that stuff. or check out jegs which is a B&M distributor.

actually transmissionhead.com sells it, the same place I just bought all my rebuild parts from. but they don't recommend it for engines that make more than 250hp and I'm well over that. I'll call them and ask why.

Any ideas why 89IROC? I'm thinking maybe burning up the torque converter in third???

By the way, thanks for the info Morley. However, I don't want to do any custom work like that on my trans. Too much hassle and I want to keep third gear. Thanks though.
