bimmer wiseguys; 87 325 overheating! replaced thermostat, fan clutch, both temp sensors on radiator! aux. fans will not come on when engine overheats. have found a rubbery substance plugging the small hose, where it comes out of the radiator. this hose goes to the header tank mounted on the fender. when it overheats the upper rad.hose is hot and the lower rad.hose is cool. I am thinking it has to be a plugged radiator or a bad water pump or both. does the 87 models have the plastic water pump vanes. If so that might be the goey crap I found plugging the rad. to header tank line! Can only imagine all that plastic crap in the radiator. will remove the rad. tomorrow and take it to the rad. shop. Is there a way to tell if there is a plastic water pump on this engine while I have the rad. out? Replaced the thermostat with one that had been taken apart where the water could flow thru without restriction and the engine still overheats!
Whats up,stressing me out!

when you drain the radiator . . . you should see plastic pieces . . . I know it gets hot . . but I don't think it would turn into goey crap . . lol
I don't think they had plastic impellars ? ?
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. . . The waterpumps seem to last 60k miles which is the mileage interval for changing the cam belt and tensioner!!! German engineering at its best!
