What exactly are A Spec points??? I'm going crazy trying to figure it out!!!

From what I've heard they aren't used for anything. The only thing I can tell you is that more difficult races give you more points, so you can judge how hard a race is by liiking at them.

once you get a certain number of points you may receive cars... but thats just my speculation

i wish they could be used to buy/unlock stuff, that'd make the most sense.

A spec are races you win controlling the car, B spec is points you get by being the director.

I'm with dantheman00114, I think the more you get you unlock cars/tracks.
I raced Sunday Cup with a blown Z06 and got 1 A-spec point for each race, then went back with a slower car and got like 75 points per race.

so it basically guages how hard the race is depending on your car?

But in the driving missions, you getlike around 60-90 A-spec points and they choose the car for you, no matter if its a 11 hp box or a 310 hp mustang

actually in the missions its like 250 pts.

I played all freaking weekend!
Made my way to the Professional level and won the Turbo series with my Mazdaspeed 6 which is a sweet car. The prize for winning that series is a fully tuned Apex RX-7, when I got it sorted out I was able to win the Tuning series.
The prize for that is a 759hp Option Stream 350Z! That thing is killer! The power goes up to 916hp if you add the stage 4 turbo.
Working my way through the license, I didn't transfer anything from my GT3 days but you can. The hardest thing so far is on the IA license the next to last step you have to drive the total length of the old Nurburgring track in under ten minutes in a Mercedes 190 16v 2.3 Turbo which is fun fun fun!
I made 6 attempts and haven't beat ten minutes yet, once I was within 20 seconds! That track is so long with 107 turns and if you get in the grass with as much as half of the car, you fail!
Don't know if I'll live long enough to ever make it but I'll keep trying.
The game is so realistic and addictive!
My favorite track so far is El Capitan.

I finished that License on my second try. The first time, I got about 25 seconds into it when I hit the grass. The second time, I just figured I'd try to drive at my own pace, and brake more, rather then less, and just see what my time came out to be. 9:23! Try to stay within sight of the pace car, and brake WHERE he brakes, rather than WHEN he brakes. I only had one time where I got really sketchy... at about 8 mins in, I think it was probably one tire clinging to the edge of the road about 1 inch. But I got her straight again. And I almost smashed into the pace car a couple of times.
A-spec points are strictly a bragging rights thing. They were created to dispel some of the guys going 'I'm a Gran Turismo god, I got 100%!', but they did it with 600 hp cars in a 75 hp event. The two strongest factors for determining how many A-spec points a win will get you is your cars power to weight ratio and the tires you are using. Points range from 1 to 200 for races, and there also other areas where A-spec points are awarded, such as the Driving Missions section, where you can get 250 A-spec points for completing a mission. I think there are also some A-spec points to be had in the arcade mode. The points awarded in races are generally fairly accurate, but some people have complained about some ridiculously hard races getting only 1 or 2 points. I've seen the other side as well though, getting 200 A-spec points for the Tsukuba Wet Hard race, which I won even though I made at least two 'into the sand' corners. I was driving the Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car on Racing Super Softs (awesome car, BTW) against an Audi R8, which I beat by about 5 seconds in then end.

Second try! Wow, you're my hero.
I haven't paid any attention to how many A Spec points I have, I'm generally after the credits for obvious reasons.

A-spec points aren't used for unlocking tracks and cars. You earn the points, in a way, based on "difficulty". Generally, the more you challenge yourself to a race, the more A-spec points you're gonna receive. Also, once you win a particular race and receive your points, you can only win more points from that race if the number of A-spec points received on your next race is more than what you've already earned. For example, if you won 87 points the first time you enter in a particular race, you can't earn anymore points if your next drive on the same race "earns" you 87 or less. If the next drive on that race is 100, for example, then you will receive more points.
The number of A-spec points is calculated using your power-to-weight ratio compared to the other cars in the race. The heavier your car is and less power you have, the more points you will earn.
The points are pretty much for bragging rights, not for unlocking things (like I said before). After winning a few races, you might see a notification that says that you've unlocked a new track. You unlock new tracks by progressing through the game as the days go by. Certain tracks unlock on a certain day in the game.

I tried the first race in the Turbo Cars racing series with a Buick GNX with only one stage of Turbo tuning, ang the race was for 187 A-Spec points, lol. I finished 2nd like by half a straight-a-way.
Went back and added the stage 2 Turbo, and the same race was for 128 A-spec points, and I won by about 2 very hard fought car-lenghts.

Do you think the points awarded have anything to do with how the race is started out? i.e. if it's a standing start or a rolling start. I find it more difficult and challenging to win the rolling start races. Does NOS effect the point value awarded? It doesn't show a HP effect when purchased.

You have to go to your car's settings to equip the NO2. There you can adjust how much HP the NO2 will add (so far, all of the car's I've put on the juice can only have a 50 shot).
To use it, you have to hold R1, and you don't have an endless supply. It runs out according to how big a shot you're spraying.

Thanks, that makes sense with the NOS. I really haven't spent too much time yet changing car setups. I'll have to start digging in there.

I went in to SundayCup started the first race with a Skyline 2000GT-B and got a points value of 58 I exited added Nitrous and got a 89 I exited again and got 57. I don't think it has an affect on the points.

i heard that when you get 2000 A-spec points it unlocks "the paint shop" but i don't think it's true though because i have 2053 A-spec and 5500+ B-spec points and i didn't get anything.

one of the coolest cars i own is the aussie FPV F6 Typhoon. that thing's awesome!!! does exactly what i want it to do.
one car that i used to get alot of A-spec points was a mazda miata.
it's like the 91 or so model and has like 980kg for weight. i put on race susp., race brakes, triple clutch and race flywheel, driveshaft, 1.5 lsd, race exhaust, chip, weight reduction 1-3, nos, and i also puchased but never really put on na tune 1, turbo 1, and blower. i got those just incase i needed a little pep.
also i went into driving aids set oversteer to 0 and tcs to 1.
you get more A-spec points for lowering the tcs settings but be careful of the car and the hp it'll cause it to spin the tires alot more. increasing the spring weight for example on a mk3 supra 2.5gt twin turbo will acctually give you alot better traction and help stop it from spinning the wheels like crazy.
when you increase the spring, shocks, and stabilizers, you get better traction and handling, also if you go with street soft in the rear and street normal in the front you'll increase acceleration on the straights and the rear will slide alot less around the corners(based on a rear drive platform).

I believe another thread pointed out nobody saw this. Don’t mean to but your bubble, but I am well over 11000 A-spec points worth only 29.9% completed. 637(?) B-Specs... Only two or three races this way. All the missions seem to be 250 points when completed and I did the first 11 so far. It appears that all other races have a range from 1 to 200. I have received 200 on two races so far.
also i went into driving aids set oversteer to 0 and tcs to 1.
I too went to lowering the setting, but mine are Zero, Zip and Nadda… 0,0,0…. The game tries to counter my moves on the steering when set, and I learned with my Z28 how to use the throttle properly. It will break traction real easy full throttle. It has a built in ASL (Acceleration Slip Regulation) which has no finesse so I always turn it off. I used to use at least 2 on the TCS till I refined my habbits a bit.you get more A-spec points for lowering the tcs settings but be careful of the car and the hp it'll cause it to spin the tires alot more.
I never seen the TCS change the points, am I wrong? Are you sure the car lineup didn’t change on you because part of the spec point calculation is based on the fastest car you race and the points often change when you have the same car and setup when the AI cars change.

You always want to set your suspension as tight and low as the track will allow. For spec points, the calculation is based on the best tires you have. May as well pot the better tires on the front too as it doesn’t split point when you split tires.
As Near as I can tell, the points are based on these factors:
Your Car:
Each car has a value independent of its power and weight. You can have two similar cars with the same power and weight and get different points.
AI Cars:
I believe the points are based on the best opposing car.
Power:
More power, less spec points. I wish I could buy a restrictor plate like they use in NASCAR.
Weight:
Add Ballast, increase points, weight reduction reduces points.
Tires:
Better tires mean less points, poorer tires mean more points.
Downforce:
Sorry, I forget... I believe it has no effect, but I'm not looking at my notes right now. I may have ruled it out. I was getting tired while collecting the data as I intend to make a formula if possible. Another part of me seems to remember a change with the downforce.
It seems that improving the transmission, clutch, rear end, brakes, carbon shaft, etc have no effect on the points. Settings of the Aides, transmission, differential, suspension, etc. also seem to have no effect. I have not tested NO2 as I never installed it... Don't belive it it. I wonder if engine life is diminished using NO2 like in real life?
