HEy whats up i just signed up here... i own a 1987 GtA and a 2000 mustang conv..... ( got my speed and style) anyways...>>!!!HELLLLP! I got it ... It ran fine for a few months... no problems.... The alarm that was hooked up drained the battery because the horn wasnt hooked up so it would go off and u wouldnt hear it... so took out the alarm... and jumped it.... all was well... went back... battery was dead... got a new battery didnt start... messed with a couple of wires... ....it was ok.... not long maybe a few days.... dead.... jumped it let it ran....ok.... altenator seems to have good charge... so now it died and i havent gotten a new battery cause obviously im getting no where... problem is i have to get this thing running properly again because just recently the mustang i have was in a decently damaging crash :crying: and insurance is being horrible :banghead: :swear: and i need a car... i know this isnt saying much but any ideas would be greatly appreciated... Bad ground somewhere?... Voltage Regulator? bad connection? Should i jus roll it off a cliff? Again any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.... THanks

I would go over the Alarm wires that were spliced and make sure nothing is touching another wire or the body of the vehicle. Sounds like a short somewhere to me. Good Luck

John

well here is the bad news!!!!!!! i have been a mechanic for 16 years and this is the one thing a hate the most. this is what is known as paracitic drain. it could be ANYTHING!!! i put 60 hours in a car one time to find out that it was a piece of bubble gum paper in the rear seat ashtray carrying just enough currant to kill the battery in a few days. your best bet is to take this to a professional or the cliff. these harnesses were also made out of copper tinned aluminum wire whch is really fragile, so poking around that old harness coul destroy the entire thing if you don't know what you are doing. if you are killing you battery in a day or two DO NOT HOOK UP A MULTIMETER TO IT it will blow the amp readers fuse. take it to a dealership and ask them to check it with a V.A.T. Voltage amp tester. this is a lot stronger than a multimeter and will not be affected by the large current draw. This machine will check your battery altinator and the whole harness. ask them what the current draw is and if it is safe to use a multimeter (10 amps at max) then you need to spend lots of time and lightly poke the wires( if you poke a hole in these wires use a small dab of silicone to seal it back off to make sure you don't cause yourself more problems) if you can backprobe the connectors to save the wires and the trouble look for anything abnormal such as a light bulb that is rated at 5 amps pulling 6 amps or anything. deffinatly check inside first for console light or anything simple. i can give you a lesson in electronics because the mods will shoot me. just don't get in a rush and don't run wires around stuff because you WILL set it on fire. good luck

alright....so based on the fact that ive been trying to take care of all the insurance issues with my mustang... i havent really been able to take care of the trans am....However ive got 3 opinions.... welll sort of

1. the voltage regulator...
2. a paracitic drain
3. " "

now.... my friends dad said he could rip the car apart and fix either of the above mentioned problems.... do i feel like trusting that and winding up with nothing more then a gigantic paperweight.... nah i dont think so......:swear:

:banghead: :wtf: GOD HELP ME I NEED A CAR DO U KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE FOR ME WALKING TOO AND FROM WORK.... ME WALKING.......OR GETTING RIDES FROM GUYS WHO WANT MY :swear: ... not even gonna go there.... back to the point now that ive had my little spaz session... think rationally... fix the mustang or fix the trans am... i dunno....

WHERES THAT CLIFF?!?!

As always Thanks....
Jessi
