Well getting stuck is no fun, As far as a good solid winch goes id get a Warn, There top of the line in quality and its going to cost you a good penny. When looking for the pulling power the more the better, Not only do you have the wieght of your truck you have the force of whatever its up against that you cannot get trough. Check out Warns website at: http://www.warn.com/ and they have a dealer locater.

If you were stuck that bad, would a winch really help? You will probably have to get a heavy duty bumper of some sort.

Big time heavy duty indeed!!Warn & ramsey make some nice ones. You need a bigger one for a full size 7 or 8k would do it.Single line is equal to the winches rating.Double mean you run a snatch block(pulley w/hook on it) at an anchor point(tree) This w/double the pull. And can pull you sideways if you need to.Like abaird says you will need bumper & mounts w/same type ratings!!!Also winches use LOTS of amps.Dual batteries or heavy duty elec, system is required.Hey I know a guy that could weld that up for you!!I call it my urban assault bumper. One more thing this stuff is heavy probly need a helper spring of some sort on a half ton

Hey Profox. Next time you get stuck, instead of a winch, get a wench. That way you won't even care...

I read an article that said most pulls don't go over 3,000 Lbs even on BIG trucks. I'd still say get a 9,000#+ winch, but you don't need that much unless you're going vertical. You can use a snatch block and run the cable back to your truck, that will double the pulling power. Look for one with a higher line speed. That way you can get out quick if you're not too deep, then use a snatch block if you're really stuck.

Go with the Warn, XD9I. 9000 lb winch and you will never have to mess with it again.

It's just a big pulley that you run the line through. Hook it up to a tree using a tree-saver, and you'll get out... unless you're in so deep that you snap the tree.

Trust me the truck will snap before the tree!!
