Is it possible to do a 'mostly' full transmission flush by yourself, or is this a shop only job?

-Thanks, Mike

unless you have access to a machine that can pump up to 10 gallons of tranny fluid, that's something a shop will only be able to do.

if your tranny fluid has been in there for a long time then DONT do it. it will ruin your tranny. you can do it safely but the only way to do it is to change it out little by little over a long period of time. i believe theres a post about how to do it on the escort forum.

I had the filter changed/pan dropped at 40K. At 51K, had it at the dealer for 'something else', and they said the fluid was brown and smelled burnt. For $185, they said they would clean/flush it. Told them not to do anything. When I got it back, it didn't look very brown and smelled fine to me. I took it to another place that flush/exchanged it with a 'natural pressure' type system for $89. This place also said there was about 3 extra qt's in it which may have caused it to burn faster? Oh well, should be ok now.
