P.O.S. Car...

For anyone considering a ford focus that might be checking here first... DONT DO IT. AUGH!
My husband and I are on our last nerve with this car. We bought a 2000 ford focus in 2001 that had about 15,000 on it....
It started with his air sensor, somehow oil was getting on it and making it dirty, which would make the engine run rough or not at all. After the dealer had replaced the sensor twice, we learned we can just clean it with alchohol... while thats good news since the sensor is 150 bux, its annoying, frustrating, dirty work... and needs to be done about once a month. The dealer said we are one of about 200 people he has fixed this problem for.
The next problem came when his trunk just wouldnt open one day. The locks on it somehow took on a life of their own and they just wont open. We found out alot of other people had this problem too, and as it was not covered by our warantee, we had to pay for a completely new locking system for the trunk.
The last thing is the engine service light... no matter how many times we have had it checked out, nobody can give us an answer why it is on, and the only way to make it go away is to disconnect the battery, even that only keeps it off for 5-10 minutes. I personally thing that light is the car begging to be put down.
This car was not cheap enough for the problems it has.. i cant wait for the day we get to say goodbye for good.. we have to hold on to it for now, because my husband now uses it as his commuter car.

Sounds like you need an oil PCV seperator.

Now matter how many times I hear people complain about the 2000, I haven't had any major problems with mine yet (knock on wood)
I've never heard of having to clean the MAF once a month...I did mine about 2,000 miles ago at 64,000 (first time it had been done on my car to my knowledge) and it was surprisingly clean. Sounds like it could be a lemon...there souldn't be any oil in the intake tract, and you could have a major problem, possibly part of the reason for your continuous CEL. I'm really sorry to hear about all of your problems, but aside from the stuck trunk, none of them seem normal, even for a 2000...it's probably too late now to have any lemon law be effective, but I would go and raise hell with Ford somehow to let them know...
EDIT: SE-I wasn't even thinking about the PCV, but that sounds like a likely cause...thanks for reminding me!

My 2001 that I bought new has almost 40k on it and hasn't given me much trouble. It hasn't been perfect, but no car is.

my car runs like a champ. the only problem i've had is the rear wheel ball barings, which was a recall, but whatever person who owned it before me must not have gotten the notice.

all manufacturers screw up a few of their cars, not just ford.

Hi, I have to agree, I have a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 and it is a total piece of garbage. It's the abosolute worse car I have ever owned. Never again will a Ford sit in my driveway once this thing is gone. I only keep it because I owe too much on it right now to sell it.

I bought it in 2003 with 30,000 miles, has 66,000 on it now. I have received 4 different recall letters on it, had them all done. Replaced all shocks and struts, front end still has some issues. Electric locks are terrible. Worse quality ever, I guess that's why Ford dropped the slogan "quality is job 1."

Anyway, I'm new to this forum, stumbled across it by accident. I joined up so I could ask questions for everything that is sure to go wrong in the future with this car. People ask me, do you like your Focus? I'm thinking of getting a Focus, should I? And sadly, I have to tell them NO!
Now, as for the newer models I can't speak on those, but as I said, no more Fords for me.
Joe

i still dont know how to do that quote thing right... but yeah. just because you had a bad experience doesnt mean they all suck, most people with their focuses are very happy. i havent had any problems, but i have a mustang tho and those have always been reliable

Try not to bring back old threads? This thread is less than a month old! I think you just don't want a focus bashing thread to remain at the top of the list.

We are entitled to our opinions of the car, if you think it's good, fine. I think it sucks.

Joe, we have rules and guide lines here on this forum. I am sure you read them when you opted to join, and if you havent, I highly reccoment that you do.

When a thread has not been posted in for a long time, and is not a highly posted in thread in itself, it can/usually is considered a old/dead thread. it is in the best forum ettiquette to either do a search for the topic at hand, or start your own thread.

as for your idea to totally hate on fords because you had one bad egg, I shall refrain from comment

but please remember to keep a level head when replying towards other members of this forum. thank you.

so where's the mods that keep that in effect? why not erase it or lock it? why not bring back a dead thread? im lost... as for the original poster... if it's used it prolly has a K&N or other oil based air filter... and it's prolly over oiled... that's why you get oil on your maf and have to clean it so often... i think anyways... could be wrong.

I hate when people bitch about FORD. FORD rules, just like the other guy said, not every car is efftup.

Talk about garbage, CHEVY is garbage. I've had FORDs my whole life and so has my family.

My '86 Mustang GT for example, when it had 296K miles on it before the overhaul, I wanted to see if I could blow the motor. I powerbraked it and let it hit the revlimit at 7800 r's, held it for about 40 seconds each doing this 6 times. The only damage I did to it was broke a valve spring.

Do that with a CHEVY, the whole car would of broke in half and the motor would of been shot.

My '03 SVT Focus, I am 11K miles over due on my oil change, I still hit the rev limit on that once in a blue moon, no taps or knocks. Again, do that with a CHEVY, uhhhhhhhhhh no.

Thank you drive through

First of all, why not bring back old threads? I think it's very helpful when the same problems stay in one thread. This way it's possible to see how many people have the exact same problem.

But it doesn't matter to me, if y'all want to start a new thread all the time....I can do that. :smokin:

To the Focus 2000. I have one too. Focus 2000 SE.
As I said in another thread, I have a lock problem too. Mine is not the trunk, but the Passenger door that won't unlock.

We also bought it in 2001 with 16000 Miles on it. We had to replace the Ignition Cylinder just a few months ago because it was locked up and car could not be started. I was also told that this happens very often in the early Focus Models.

I don't have a problem with Ford, I just think every first year model had it's little flaws.

Please do not bring up threads that have been dead for 6 months to make a useless post.

I hope you are not talking to me. I'm posting a problem, similar to the one in the original post. So it is not useless to me.

Sorry for the confusion...you had something to contribute to the thread. That was addressed to the person who brought up a dead thread simply to go into a useless Ford/Chevy rant.

i own a 2001 focus ZX3 i never have a major problem with it, probably the people that are having problems bought a lemon car , let a mechanic check the car before you buy it
