the car is a 97 firebird. I was driving in the rain and the car began missing. took it to autozone and they told me the code was a 300 code random misfiring. drove for a few miles and it cleared up. Next time it rained samething except it never cleared up, now it will hardly even run. I changed out the module and the coil packs with no luck. Is there a common problem with this car having this problem? Not real sure where to go next. ant suggestions?

is it just in the rain? mine 96 3.8 did the same and I ended up having to replace the fuel pump. But I think on the 97s there is a code that would say something was wrong with the fuel pump (96s did not have it... it could have started on the 98s tho I can't remember) Obviously mine didn't do it in the rain only. Spark plug and wire change due? If it were the injectors I think it would register a misfire on a certain cylinder, but again, I could be wrong. I think it's something w/ the wires tho

plug wires are sensative to rain like that have you changed those lately? Also I would unplug and clean the contacts of any available related electrical connections such as plug in connections to any sensors.Search for any wires that may be saturated with oil or that have poor plastic shielding as that too can be a situation where moisture in the air could cause problems

I have had two birds. My first was a 3.8 and now an LT1. Both of them have had this problem. Between the two its happened to me 4 times. Everytime it was the plug wires were shorting out on the exhust manifold. When it rains or you go to a car wash the water inreases the electrical contact to the manifold resulting in misfire.

You may have this problem when its dry to but its usually intermittant. It will gradually get worse though as the wires get worse.

If you replace the wires and it still happens it could be you have a leaky water pump leaking on the distributer (this sucks). Or you may have a oil leak from the intake manifold which is common. My 96 Formula has this problem. The leak is not all that bad so I just replace the one plug and wire when it misfires. Ill wait till the leak worsens before replacing the intake gasket.

Hope you find your problem. Becareul with what the mechanic may want to do on this problem. They can get you good on this one and youll never know.
