Another question regarding poor heat - aux water pump

GM has a bulletin to add an electric auxiliary water pump to boost coolant through the heater core during idle or low engine RPM. Otherwise (like on my 97 trans sport) you loose your heating at low RPM.
The dealer wants $1200 which includes the pump, wiring, temp switch and a new cross brace to mount the pump on. I can probably find a used pump and make do with the original cross brace. My question is does anyone have this pump on their van, and if so...does it make a difference for heating?
