I am looking at buying a 2001 Grand Prix with 101K miles on it. Can anyone tell me if that is too bad to buy. Price is $5750, but he said he would go down on it. Nothing else is wrong with it, body is in excellent condition. motor is 3.1 V6. Can anybody help?

I will not say that it is a good or bad idea. I think that it is a lot of miles for a 2001. I have a 98 GTP and just broke 100,000 miles. Also it depends on what size of engine you really want. I prefer the 3.8 supercharged of the 3.1. Check kelly bluebook on it and see what price they come up with vs. the price he wants for it. Will you modify this car or will you keep it original? I would look around a little and see if ther was a GP GTP (supercharged engine) out there if you want a fast car.
It really depends on your preferences some members would probably tell you its a great deal wher others will tell you its a bad. it really depends on what you like and what you want to do with it. Just a thought and I hope it helps.

Price sounds so-so depending on area. Watch (get it checked) for intake manifold coolant leaks - big problem with these engines and a fairly costly repair. Also look to see if struts have been changed. Sometimes high miles on a young car is a good thing as they are all highway(easy)miles. Bought my car one year ago with 69000 miles and it is very tight (has 93k now). Did the intake gaskets myself but it is a chore if your hands are larger than a 7 year olds :grinno:

Thanks. The dealer said it is mostly all highway miles. And being that I have two young kids, I am not really looking for a fast car. It just seems too good to be true. Right now I have a 91 olds silhouette with the 3.1 and it has 226K miles on it. The intake gasket is starting to show problems and the heater core is junk, but that is just a small issue. I just don't want it anymore and cant stand to put more money into it than what I paid ($900). It lasted a year which is more than what i expected. Thanks again.

Just remember to take anything a dealer says with a grain of salt!! However, in this case it is probably true as I don't think Grand Prixs are commonly used for delivery vehicles :) . If you are in an area with rough roads make sure you can live with the firm ride! Have an independent garage or body shop look it over for crash damage or any indications of sloppy repair work. Good Luck!

Awwwww, c'mon, don't blame it on the kids! I have three kids (fourth on the way). My Grand Prix was the 29th fastest FWD, in the SCSH Shootout Series, at Gateway Raceway here in St. Louis last season.

Just giving you a hard time. :icon16:

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing I want more than a suped up GTP, but with my money situation, the insurance would kill me. Nice car by the way...

Yea, and it would have been 3rd if you would take out the car seats and french fries in the back seat. Only kidding John. You would have only been fourth.

Make sure also to ask the dealer for a carfax report. He should have no problem with giving you one. I also have two kids but they're not always in the car.=)

French fries and car seats HAHAHAHAHa

Well, I talked the dealer down to $5400. Found out that they had replaced the intake gasket already. I broke down and bought it. Will be picking it up on Wed or Thurs. Now what I need to know is does anyone have and sweet looking paint schemes out there? My dad does vinyl decals and I am looking to get some done. The car is silver. Please let me know what you think. Thanks so much.
