When Doug Heckman was installing a PC Pitstop program, he actually read the EULA. In it, he found a clause stating that he could get financial compensation if he e-mailed PC Pitstop. The result: a $1,000 check, and proof that people don't read EULAs (3,000 people before him didn't notice it). The goal of this was to prove that one should read all EULAs, so that one can see if an app is spyware if it is buried in the EULA."

End User Licence Agreement.
I'm assuming you're definitely one of those people that doesn't bother with the legalities of installing software....

I dunno, but cant we all just get a bong.
we should be mighty high rather than high and mighty.. jk
anyways, is the point that we should all read EULAs in case we can get 1000 dollars? I mean, what program was this? I'll download it for a thousand bucks, sheesh. (but I know Im not gonna just go d/l a program and get $1000, so I dont care... I got the point and I dont feel like reading the article.)
But I don't see any reason to read the whole damn EULA for everything.. its usually way too much crap anyways. Its not like everyones gonna get money from EULAs now.

The point of the article is that most of us don't read the EULAs and because of that we often agree to have spyware or other crap installed.
Its true its a big oversight of us not to read them just because of laziness.

yeah I figured, but why would you download something fishy anyways? I don't download anything that I don't trust. And if I was going to, it would only be if I had a good antivirus program installed.
so basically, if you are downloading something from an unknown website, spend 20 minutes reading the EULA so you can find out that it comes with free spyware and adware, and you just wasted 20 minutes, and the program is no good. But thats just the way I personally look at it.

Just read an online article tonight which said that Firefox is getting old and vulnerable , and developers are building up to releasing a newer version Firefox v 1.0.1 this link:http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/ lets you download one of the new "nightly builds" to test drive some of the new features.

Valid point, but I see it differently. You haven't wasted those 20 mins, you've spent them wisely. Suppose you didnt read the EULA, and you got spyware. You'll spendmore than 20 minutes trying to remove it. And if it gets too far gone, you'll need to reformat, and if you're like me, that involves a lot of backing things up, which takes time...

yeah, thats exactly why I think its a waste of 20 minutes. I understand other people like to download stuff all the time, but I just gave up downloading things online because it ALL comes with spyware. I will download yahoo messenger, and AIM messenger, and thats about it. Everything else is almost guaranteed to have spyware, so I wont even waste my 20 minutes reading the EULA. I wont even waste my time THINKING about downloading stuff anymore.
but again... thats just my view on it.
