Coustic Amp question

hey guys, i currently have a crappy 1000watt (i know this is not the reall power of the amp) 4 channel amp, im gonna replace with with my brothers coustic 161Se (160watt 2 channel amp)

now what i wanna know, if i want to use my sub which says 800watt. i thinks thats 400watt rms, and my rear jbl speakers.

will it be ok to run it on this amp. and if yes, how do i connect the sub and speakers. do i just bridge the sub and speakers together.

on the input panel of the amp, its has freq. either 80 - 120. whats best.

but i really need to know, if the amp will be alright and how to connect the sub and speakers

thanks

or is it best to just connect my rears to the HU like the front are.

but i wold prefer the rears and sub connected to the amp.

Ideally you don't want to do that. It is more than possible to wire it up like that though. Just wire your rear speakers in parallel to one channel and wire your sub to the other channel. It might sound a little funny though.

What voice coil configuration is your sub and how many ohms is it rated at?

this is the sub. its a crappy sub, but i got it for free. m gonna buy a mtx sub but till then this is alright for now.

http://www.performance-teknique.com/subwoofers-571xseries.html

its the 10" sub.

it says that u can run the sub in 2 ohm or 8 ohm mode. 500watt rms. i wired in in series.

iim just a beginner, so what u said i should do i, wire the rear speakers 2gether on on channel and the sub on the 2nd channel. is that right. will it harm the amp.

my cousin said just to wire the rear speakers and the sub 2gether and bridge it but i dont trust him.

also, what do u think about the amp. is it any good and how is it rated in a scale of 10.

I didn't say thats what you should do, that's just a possibility and honestly I would not hook them up like that. I would just run the rears off of the deck and wire the sub in series and bridge the amp for the sub. Wiring the sub in parallel will clip the signal and blow the sub.

You've got to pay attention to your subs voice coil configuration, ohm rating and your amp's ohm ratings when you get a system.

As for Coustic amps, don't have any personal experience and don't know many people that have owned any of their products.

ok, i have wired the sub in series. and bridged to the amp. i am only running the sub to the amp. and the speakers to the head unit.

on the back of the sub, it says 2 ohms. its a dual voice coil

and on the amp, its says
2 ohm stable in stereo configuration

4 ohm stereo 2x 40 watts
2 ohm stereo 2x 80 watt
4 ohm mono 1x 160 watts

when im running the system on, the sub turns of sumtimes . and turns back on. i dont know what is it.

could be the amp is overheating, I had 401se coustic amp running a 450 watt bazooka TVB subb and if you ran the subb to long pushing the subb the amp would go into overheat protection mode, and turn off the sub, and 5 min later after it cooled it would turn on again. also it could be a wiring fault, your ground/power connections might be loose, or improper ground points. and as for a 160 watt amp pushing a higher rated sub that AMP is not going to do it. you need more power in the AMP nearly 600watt for decent power delivery and matched Ohm ratings. this will reduce overheating, and give you better sound quality. you'd be lucky if that 160 watt amp even pushes the sub. improper setups are dangerous, and not recommended.

yeah but i have a crappy no named 2 channel amp thats way crapper then this amp and way crapper then my 4 channel boss amp and it ran fine with the sub.

when i installed the coustic amp, the same day, the ground came off, it was a 4 gauge wire and its so dam hard to wire it to the amp. so i just tried to solder the end of the wire to a terminal type of connection so it can connect to the amp. well, i didnt solderit properly.

so i just used my old ground wire whihc is so thin.

would having a very thin ground be the cause. i just made a new wire which is isnt as thich as a 4 gauge but i dont know if it helped cause its night and im not using my car.

i tried putting the system on but the sub didnt turn off.

the amp is screwed on to the sub box, but 2 morrow im gonna screw it on my back seat.

when i put the volume very loud, thats when it some times turns off.

that's part of your problem. you need to make a proper ground wire. get some terminal ring connectors, and some low/med temp solder use a pair of pliers and cut up a bunch of solder, and put it into the connector (like a cup), Get some heat shrink tubing big enough to fit over the wire, and connector, but small enough that it will shrink tightly around both. now take a propane, or Butane torch, and use it to melt the solder in the connector, now take the ground wire, and while the solder is still hot shove the ground wire into the connector, and hold it there for approx 15-20 seconds. next take the heat shrink tubing place it over the new connection, and put the torch too it, to heat shrink the connection.

i just connected a 4 gauge ground wire.

but still it turns off. do u guys think its cause i have the input sensitivity level control turned up to full. should i lower it. cause it only starts to turn off when i put the volume very loud, maybe the sub or the amp cant handle the volume. should i turn the input sensitivity level control to like half.

does the input sensitivity level control have any thing to do with

It sounds like the whole system needs to be addressed. Is all the power wire new and what size is it? Also, the size of the power and ground wire needs to match.

Those Coustic amps rate up there with the Boss stuff. Sounds to me that you have the wrong ohm rating. What you should do is either wire the subs so EACH sub is 2ohm and run them in stereo mode on the amp or wire them at 8ohm EACH and then bridge them back down to 4ohm mono to the amp.

he has 1 sub that is DVC 2 ohm. So wiring the voice coils in series and bridging the channels on the amp is going to get him the most power.

The amp is turning off to keep itself from shorting out or blowing up. Turn your gain down, use the same size power wire as ground and vice versa, and don't turn your stereo up to the point where it has to shut itself down.

Sounds like you did absolutely no research or questioning before you did any of this.

ok, i looked at the amp when the sub keeped turning off, and the green led light turns red . maybe the amp cant run the sub. cause when i looked at my 2 channel amp, it says 200wat + 200 watt.

dont worry, im gonna change the amp back to my old boss amp.

now, i need to ask u guys some thing.
Pioneer - 6 Inch 4-Way 220 Watt Speakers
model. TSA1680S
http://www.strathfield.com.au/ViewProduct.asp?ProdID=561

or do u guys know any better speakers for that price range.

how is this speaker. cause i am kinda getting tired of a sub and the huge box in my boot. if i just buy really good speakers like the one i typed above, and by the same speakers for my fronts, could i get good bass from them if i wire them to the amp.

this is the amp i have
Boss - 4 Channel 1000 Watt

It's going into protection mode because there is more than likely something wrong with your installation. And using the gain as a volume knob is so wrong. You're supposed to use the gain to make up for weak RCA output voltage.

so what do u suggest i should do.
