Don't forget the Europeans. I guess I don't get the infatuation with the 1/4 mile, it is only one small aspect of the overall performance of a car, any grease monkey can slap a hemi into a Chevelle and go straight. Check out the video of the Carrera GT's on the Autobahn. That Cobra was doing 160 and the GT's flat left him in the dust. Come on USA lets put out some cars that give the Eurpeans a run for their money! There is only one American car that ranked in the top ten with Top Gear's Power laps all of the rest are European. Of the top 20 only 3 are American and 1 Japanese.
The US has put out only 2 cars in the last 20 years that can perform like the Europeans, surely GM, Ford, & Chrysler can do better than that.

There's been other fast cars you guys need to research :)

Yeah, this coming from someone who owns a Cavalier! Not exactly the essence of American muscle my friend.
Wait...so its good to chirp on every gear? See I always thought that wheel chirping was caused by the tires losing traction on the clutch release. Oh and wait...if your tires are losing traction on the track doesn't that actually keep you from going as fast?
If you want chirpping get a bird. Until then learn how to drive that car so you actually USE the HP under the hood.

Some kid told me his Sclipse was soo fast because it would chirp in 3rd....i told him i could make my truck chirp in 3rd.... he was like STFU your truck doesnt have the power...
well lets just say that when shifting from 2nd to 3rd i doube clutched, while in neutral i red lined it then droped the clutch when hitting 3rd....well needless to say he now thinks my truck the fastest damn truck with in a 50mile radius....when it is really a stock B3000 with a 4.10 rear end....
but it was still a hella fast c6....damn thoes things are sexy... not the handle of an elise....but damn close at a damn close price too...with a lot more power and comfert....

Ok, was a corvette just compared to a supercar? a corvette costs a hell of a lot less than say a GT40, etc, etc. And If you stick the extra money that you saved into mods, hell you can get a vette with cheater slicks to hit 60mph in under 2 seconds....A corvette has a hell of alot of comfort still and sells for 50k...Ok, that is still a hell of a lot for people like me but compared to the supercars, its damn cheap....Ok...
That is my two cents, I am a fan of american cars, and the quarter mile is what I really care about, sure, top speed is nice, but how fast can it get there???? If it has a top speed of 220mph, I don't care, there isn't anywhere in our STATE that you can reach that insanely fast speed.

elise is 46k....or there bouts...you just have to wait forever for them to make it.... where as the vett is mass prodiced....
however the elise is basically a bit high perfomrance gokart... reports of way too little cab space for 2 passengers and though they are one of the best handleing cars on the market (especially for the price) they ride pretty harshly.... elise is 100% perfomance oriented for AutoX and road racing etc... the Vett is ment to be a daily commuter that is still hella fast....
i wasnt comparing them....i was making an analogy... well sort of ocmparing them... lol

Chirping isnt going to effectively slow your time. Trying to soften some aspects to stop the chirping will most likely slow your time down. Wheel spin is what slows down cars, chirping is about an inch of tire movement.

an inch of slip is an inch less that the car is pushing forward with. Do the pros have chirping (top fuel, funny car, and pro mod) no why because they are putting all the HP onto the track and not doing bird calls.

hmmm....droping the clutch to make it chirp.... i guarontee you i could run the same time or faster in that same car without squaling 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th.... it can be avoided and the same times can be ran and you dont put extra ware on your tires, clutch, drivline.... im not saying feahter the clutch out when going into 4th....im saying you dont have to drop it like a hot potato and keep the thottle on as much as that guy was to run the same times...

The C6 is the sh!t. Down talking it only proves how bad you wish you weren't a broke ass bitch. Every design aspect of the C6 is competitive genius.
Show me a car that has the curb weight to handle turns at speed like a C6, around the same price range. I would go as far as to compare the C6 to a skyline of equal value on a road coarse, and would see a damn good race.
Its not a super car but I garuntee $100,000 dumped into it and you would rival an F50.
PS: Give the tire chirp a rest, the owner is probably just happy to have bought a car of uncommon quality and doesn't submit thought to whether or not it should grab each gear. The car was perfectly driven, say you can do better? Show us a vid.
Does your car grab 4th? Oh my bad i geuss it doesn't because you don't want it to, faster times that way huh? Even if your car could im sure you would jump right on it, with hopes of eliminating the "problem". wtfever

ON the corvette
A super car must have a racing pedigree
Privatteers have raced vettes for over 50 years, but the factory joined the fun only in 1999. The C5-R won an overall victory in the Daytona 24-hour race, three 1-2 finishes at the 24 hours of LeMans in the GTS class, three straight class wins at the 12 hours of Sebring, and four consecutive manufacturers championships un the american LeMans series. The team ran undefeated in 2004.
The Corvette cant compete with Euro supercars?

Elise has better handleing than the c6....the c6 handles great but the elise is one of the top handleing cars in the world. the only way a vett would beat an elise on a road course is if the course was largely straights but when there was a corner it was very tight and you ahve to accelerate hard out of the corner.
the vett has better acceleration abd a higher top speed but the elise has better handling....
The vett is still nothing to mess with (and for the price if i wanted comfort/daily driver i would go with the vett, for the track i would go with the elise and add some type of FI)
as far as dumping 100,000 into a vett to make it rival an F50.... it will never happen. in the 1/4 mile yes but the ammount of engineering that went into the F50 it would take rebuilding the vett from the ground up. and even still i would rather have the F50 because i may stand a change in an F50 going 180MPH+....plan on dieing in a vett. remember that the F50 has a carbonfiber capsule that surrounds the driver/passenger in the eenof a crash...just like F1 cars...the F50 is a formula one car with streetable tires and legal emmisions....

driver plays a large part in road racing. Elise will usualy pull faster track times on the more curvey tracks than C5's and C6's with the same driver. but im not bashing the vett...if you look in a previous post of mine on this thread i made an anology of the vett to the elise. like i said...if i was looking for a daily driver that could hit the track on weekends the vett would be a good choice. if i just wanted a track car and cruise when i feel like driving fast in my little 150hp go kart. the elise would be my choice.

I know that was a bold statement about the F50 since it is the closest thing to an indy car you will ever see on the streets in the US, unless you see a mclaren f1.

Ok I checked out your link and let me just say this; "Road & Track Magazine" car testers are a bunch of crack smoking monkeys. The are obviously pandering to the American reader who wants to see the C6 on top. Further note, how in the blazes did the Viper rank below the S2000!!! What kind of crack are they paying these guys with. Also the track, "the West Loop" has a 1/2 mile long straight stretch, this obviously favors cars with greater HP.

Cars Tested:

8th: Nissan 350Z
7th: BMW Z4 *he he*
6th: Viper SRT-10
5th: S-2000 *ROFLOL*

Ok I can tell that you either didn't watch the video with the GT3 and the F40 or you simply ignored the fact that there were straightaways on the course. If you'll notice the Elise driver waves at the F40 and the GT3 thinking they are going to run away from him, much to his surprise he is able to brake much later, keep more speed, and accelerate faster through the turns. Yes, track selection does have a lot to do with how a car performs, however, what I find irritating is when a car mag does a comparison test on various cars but the track they use heavily favors a certain set up. The video that I posted was not all 90 degree corners, but at the same time it was not all 1/2 mile straightaways either. If we really want to compare these cars we need to put them to the test on several different tracks and look at the times and performance. On top of that the cars can't be selected in such a way as to give an advantage to one car, as was done in the Road and Track test.
Anywho, I've said my piece and will only end up repeating myself "ad infinitum".

ok, too start off, nice job picking you exaust lickem. borla is my favorite for any small block v8. as far as the corvette is concerned, it is THE American Muscle car. almost every other muscle car ever built was built based on the idea that it could be better than the corvette. very few succeeded. perhaps only the cobra. not the mustang variety. the original cobra. when comparing a corvette to a euro or a jap you are comparing two completely different cars. cars built for differnt reasons and different goals. sure the corvette can be upgraded to match the hp and torque and many other specs but it still might not keep up. it is not because the corvette is not an incredible automobile. dont think for one second that gm couldnt build a car that would outperform a lotus or a ferarri in every test that such companies designed those cars to excell in. cars like the corvette are not neccesarily built to go out and smoke a lotus. chevrolet does not care because they are happy with the vette. when someone goes out to a parking lot with a vette and a bunch of his friends and smokes the tires until they blow, the smile and excitement on peoples face is what chevy wanted. that is what corvette does, it continues to amaze people year after year. so who cares if a stock corvette can take a lotus. it all comes down to which one you are going to have more fun in. i choose the vette.

lol, ok great good for you in ideal conditions an elise would take a c6 on the track. of course those ideal conditons being no straightaways and back to back 90 degree turns, but i would have a c6 anyday over a 190hp go cart, shit take an actual goldstar go cart and put an elise on the go carts track and the go cart would run circles around it.
IMO, for cars with simular test numbers, the lighter car is always the more enjoyable car on the track. However, this is not always the case for a daily driver.
As a starting point for a track car designed for road course, I would alway pick the Elise over the C6 Vette. The reason is fairly simple, the Elise with a 50% bump in HP would be amazing. However, a C6 Z06 Vette with the same 50% increase would just melt its tires. And how much is it going to cost for us to procure brakes big enough to deal with a 3000 lbs 700+ HP track car? However, $2K 14" brakes would be plenty big for a 2000 lbs, 300 HP track car.
On the other hand, on the street, as a daily driver, I would pick the C6 Z06 Vette over the Elise everytime. 90% of the performance with 300% of the comfort; But thats just me.

OCUJer,
I see you didn't read what they wrote about the Boxster, or 911. I see you didn't read the last page in which the editors were asked which car they would pick. You should understand that this is for the best ALL AROUND sports car. This includes cost, ride quality, everyday drivability, fuel economy, and cargo room, etc.
Since the track favors the more powerful car, shouldn't the most powerful car the Viper be the fastest? The fact of the matter is the Vette beat the Elise, and all other cars tested, on this track, and unless you can find a course that has no straightaways (slight exagerration here) the Vette will win.
As a side note, in the words of Carroll Shelby, horspower sells car, torque wins races.

Yeah, this coming from someone who owns a Cavalier! Not exactly the essence of American muscle my friend.
What in the hell does what I drive have to do with the point of my comment?

I would just like to mention the fact that although the elise took 4th place, it did so with the lowest daily driver scores of all which further proves how amazing of a car it is..... not taking sides just an observation.
