HELP on truck box

I have a '79 Ford F-150 and I plan on putting 2 JL Audio 10WO behind my seat. I'm 6foot 5 and I measured for a box with my seat one notch up for the last, so i can still stand to drive without being unconfortable. My questions that I have is does anyone now a good site on some ideas on what shape i should make the box or has anyone made one that can post thier measurments on here? Do you think i should stick with the 10's or can 12's fit there without to much of a prob? I'm kinda on a budget of around $400 and for $275 i can buy those 10's with a concept 2 channel amp that can power them,or does anyone have a good setup suggestion that might be less expensive that may sound the same or better? I'm sure i will have to go with a sealed box and i was also wondering if it would not be a problem with putting a few 5.25 or 6.5 coaxial speakers in the same box with another amp that i have? I'll also keep my 5.25 in my front doors with my tweets on my dash. BTW I am a noobie at this so any help would be appreciated. TY

OK, practice regurgitation time for me... because I had lots of questions like this a couple of weeks ago. First, I've seen some narrow profile boxes online for like $70+, or you could buy some 3/4" MDF (medium density fiberboard - ~$25), get someone (I could even do it) to whip you up a plan in a CAD program based on your space limitations (~$15), get some glue, screws, carpet, spray adhesive, and a wire terminal (to get wires inside the box) (~$20) and build your own box. I'm working on one myself at the moment, and I plan to make a work log at some point.

To answer some of your other questions, you can't have the smaller speakers in the same box as your subs (unless the air spaces are completely seperated). The air pressure from the subs in a sealed box would pop them like we pop bubble wrap. I doubt you really need rear speakers anyway, fronts should just fine on their own. You'll have to wait for BumpinStang, SR20, NG or some of the other regulars on here to recommend speakers for your budget.

JL's are nice and it seems like your gettin a pretty decent price. What's the concept put out and at what impedance? What impedance and how many voice coils on the subs? I'm not sure what w0's do in small sealed boxes, but they shouldn't be too bad. And what 5.25" component set are you running? As long as you amp a good component set up front there should be no need for rears, especially in a truck. Some other subs you could check out is the RE series from resonant engineering. www.reaudio.com. They do very well in small sealed boxes and are pretty damn efficient.... not to mention a GREAT price.

I'd stick with one or two 10's if I were you. Spit out some exact dimensions for us, especially what is the deepest measurement you can go with. You can also look into (depending on depth restriction)

And I'd recommend looking into an amp that gives you around 500rms for the subs, and a small 2channel amp that's about 80rms x 2 for your components. peace

I wanted to put a open spot in the middle of the box for my amp but i have to figure out how much air space those subs need. The subs are SVC and 8ohm. The amp is 150 RMS @ 4 ohms. Im at school atm so ill get more info and drop it on here later. Ooh and do i have to call for the prices on those RE's?

Yup, call for direct price on the RE's AND the IA 187's...
My choice would be the 187's or the rl-i's. Either would do better than the w0's and the RE line.

Ok so i just went out and measured and this is what i got. I can go 48" long, 8.5"wide, 15 to 16" high and about 6" wide up top. I went to JL's site and got their recomondations for box size and mounting depth. These sub's need .75 cu ft (21.2 litres) and have a 5.375 depth. I am not good with configuring the cu ft at all. If i made this box with those measurement with the 15" high will i be over or under specs. for the cu ft? If i make the box 48" long without a space on it for my amp im not sure where i can put it then. The amp is a Concept CA 802 which is 9.76 L x 11.66W x 2.37 H. I would like not to put it under my seat so i guess what I am asking is if a box that is 38" long with the same measurements as before will be sufficient enuf for the JL's. Thanks for all the help peeps. Right now I have Concept 5.25 coaxial in my doors and some alpine tweets on my dash.

P.S. I called on the prices for those other subs and I think the JL's are gonna fit in my budget better but thanks for the links guys.

Ok well i went with 2 RE 10's and ill get getting them in about a week. Guess i just got thier last 2. Thanks for telling me about these. they need half the air space that the JL's need. The salesguy said that they just put a box in a truck with those and the size was 36"long 8"wide at bottom, 6" wide top and 15" high but it is ported. So what do I do now? Sealed or Ported? So with staying at about 8" wide on bottom and 5.5 or 6" on top with being 15" high, How wide am I goin to have to be to have .38cu ft space on a sealed box? Or should i try and go a bit bigger like .5 cu ft? And now ill need a different amp. They are 175 RMS with 250 max and are 4 ohm DVC. Any suggestions on an amp now? P.S. I double check on those stats on the cu ft space i need for the sealed box for the RE10's and the site says .83 cu ft, not .38 like the sales guy told me.

nice you will like them a lot. You will probably need to go sealed. I don't think you have enough room to go ported.

a friend of mine has 2 JL w0 10's ported in his S10 single cab with the seat on the 2nd to last notch... here is how you can port it...

Honestly man I don't think you have enough room to port..... and if you do port use two 4" circle ports because they will take up less box volume then big slot ports......3" would work too...... but I seriously doubt u have enough room to port.

im messin around in winISD.... seems a 2cuft enclosure using 1/2" MDF wtih some bracing and a 2"x8" port could work but im just brain storming right now....

Since i found out what those subs really take for cu ft. yeah i really wont be able to port at all. I dont mind sealed boxes anyway. I just have to find out if my measurements are going to work or not. I need to find an easy way to configure those sizes to check what cu ft, its gonna be. So will a mono or a 2ch amp be better or cheaper for me? And what is a good brand? I need to find one for under $150.

not sure about REs VC configs for the re series.. but if theyre single 4 ohm woofers than youll need a mono.. profile makes cheap mono amps check out the CAs maybe.. i forget what the mono line of the california series is called.. well anyways profiles are pretty good for the money. if you got one from crutchfield they give a 3 year warranty too and to me thats worth the extra money (theyre a little expensive) customer service is great too..
