sudden kills

I have a 95' cherokee with about 90,000 miles on it. I have noticed that It will suddenly die while driving around town. I quickly put it back into nuetral and it fires back up. I have noticed that this happens at low RPM's. I have been told to try a new crank positioning sensor. I have also heard that it could be a problem with the ignition. Is there anyone else that has overcome this problem. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had a '94 and my niece has a '95. Both had your same symptom and the crankshaft position sensor eliminated the problem. It's located in a most vulnerable place, down below the exhaust manifold. If you get down under the engine on the drivers side under that exhaust manifold you will see it. I had a friend who had the same problem on his '94 and the CPS replacement fixed it so that's three for three. As far as I'm concerned, that's got to be your problem. Or it could just be the connection to it. You can solder the connection on to the old CPS and try it if you want to save the money, but I would just go ahead and replace it.

When was the last tune up done. You could just need new plugs and cap.rotor. But three for three, sound convincing. So that is what that is on my 88 XJ.

im new at this site but i wanted to offer you a lil advice about your problem. I have read about a sensor located on the drivers side near the exhaust manifold, you have to access it from underneath. Also where your distributor connects at there is a lil rubber gasket that goes bad and allows oil to get up in your cap and rotor. Eliminating that fixed the automatic left hand turn stalls for me.
