I am looking for some advice on troubleshooting my electrical problem on my 98 Town car.
I currently have all indications that the Engine Fuse 5 is not working... i.e. the following is not working...
Back Brakes,
Gasoline Cap opening,
Inside Lights not working,
Heater control panel not working,
Computer Connection not working,
etc...
I checked the fuse and its o.k.

Could my Computer be partially malfunctioning? Any Thoughts!!!!

Welcome to AF Lincolns!!

I wouldn't be too quick to blame the computer.

What, if anything happened to the car between the last time it worked properly and now?

I'd suspect a "fusible link", power relay, or master fuse in this case. There's at least two fusible llinks wrapped tight inside the wiring harness coming from the battery. The power relays are inside the main power distribution box under the hood, and possibly the master fuses are there too.

I don't have a 98 reference guide so I'm basically going with knowledge of the 96, hope that might lead you in the right direction.

PS:
When testing the fuse holder, you'll need a 12v test lamp to be sure there's power running through the fuse holder pins.

Thank you for your reply! This past Saturday when I started my car, I could not put it in Reverse! I initially thought it was the back brake switch. I replaced the switch and still nothing. As I did more research, I noticed other items were malfunctioning. When I looked and my user manual, everything that was malfunctioning was related to Engine Fuse #5.
I further looked at this fuse and it was O.K. I then took apart the Box and could not find any anomalies.
I will look for those master fuses....
Thanks,
Nelson R.

When I went to the Lincoln Dealership Service Center, they are saying I should replace the wires to the brake switch as well. However, my overall concern is all the other components that are malfunctioning at the same time.

I have checked and verified the fuse links, power relays as suggested by a previous forum participant. However, nothing yet…

I’m getting ready to take the Car to the Dealer. However, just before I do that, I have a few more questions….

Is anyone aware of the PCM (Power Control Module) partially malfunctioning?

Does anyone know all the component the Multi Function Switch is responsible for?

As far as I know this controls the:
Hazard lights
Signal lights
Back brake switch
?

Final Update!!!! :)

After further review, it turns out the Fuse 5 had a severed cable from the main fuse box to the wiring harness....

Thank you all for the opportunity to publish my concern on this popular automotive forum site....
