It all depends on what kind of paintjob you want. If you go to Maaco Flako you get a crappy ass paint job. If you go to a body shop, your more likely to get a better paint job. In the paint world, you get what you pay for.

If you use the search you should find some more posts on this subject. You should be looking at $1500+

A normal sand and respray with doorjams and under your hood will cost about $3000+, and that is a cheap figure for a decent job. If you go to maaco then yeah, you might get away with about $1500.

Im about to spray my own car, and at first i was thinking of paiting my car with 1500 dollars. Truth is, 1500 dollars to me is above wut i need, i dont need it to be show car quality. You can pickup paint from sherman williams and will prolly cost you around 600-700, equipment to do it yourself will prolly cost another 500. Its totally up to you. I think 700 dollars for the paint will give you a more than decent finish. I mean ive seen cars than have ben sprayed with aresol can and they were decent, so i can imagine it will be above decent if you do it with the proper equipment.

these guys are right, you get what you pay for. Spraying your own car is illegal (though no one will site you for it) and its hard to do. My advice is to call up a notible insurance agent, like farmers insurance, they have apporved body shops that do good work. Then I would take it in, and if they repaint it the same color, they can skip the under hood and door jams which saves a lot. I got mine painted for $1000 (although it was supposed to be liek $3000 and so then we send him customers) but it has a few imperfections, so im not so sure that its really a $3k job.

But I've seen Maccoo jobs, well a $300 job. It looks bad.

Since when is spraying your own car illegal? I've helped a couple guys spray their cars and planes. It must not be illegal in Georgia.

well in calfironia you have to contain all the arieated chemicals some how, you can't just let them float up intot he atmosphere. Ofcourse our emsions are a lot stricter too. You have to order chevys that are deisiel wiht a califonia smog option.

My '73 Z-28 was taken down to the bare metal and color sanded between coats then rubbed out and detailed and I don't know how many clear coats. $3500 done by a So. Cal. custom shop. The 1 Day premium job out here is $2000, and you know it ain't near as good plus they'll find extra prep work that will make it still more.

Bigdadddy- if it's your 1990 Mustang it deserves a great look. Paint is the only thing that makes any real visual difference.
