ok.. so as embarassed as i am to post this.. i think it shoudl be out there to prove a point about build quality.. and stupidity on the installers part...

so a couple months ago i suggested a friend order the 16kv.2/nine.2 package from eD.. it came in the mail, perfect condition, etc.. and we couldnt wait to hook it up (first nonmainstream hookup)..

well here comes the problem... we were messin around with the sub all day and running his wires etc etc so by the time it came to finilizing the install, we were already late for the party we were gonna go to.. well mistake #1.. dont do shit when youre pressed for time..

everything was good to go.. all we needed to do was wire the sub, and wire it to the amp.. well heres the fuck up.. i went to wire in a series.. and couldnt tell which lead posts were to which coil.. and no insturctions in the box.. great.. well i took a wild guess and hooked it up. wired a postive to a close negative(figuring they were opposite coils), and wired the other two to the amp.. well hey amp kicked on, and even though the protect light flicked for 2 seconds, it started right up.. ok sweet.. sub was working well (so i thought).. but i was still kinda disappointed with the output for all the hype the sub got.. hmmmmmm

just now i thought to look at the eD site.. and realized that not only do i only have one coil goin.. but its a 2 ohm coil (amp is stable to 4 ohms) and its getting prolly over double the recommended power..

SO.. yeah im fixing it tomorrow and i called him right away and told him to stop playing music til i fix it... but i cannot believe that the sub isnt dead.. im in awe that the single coil withheld abuse like that for like a month.. impressed with eDs build quality for sure.. i know my CVR wouldnt have taken that kinda abuse..

PLEASE be gentle guys hahah i know i screwed up terribly.. but this post was to point out impressive build quality, not stupidity.. i know im a retard haha (dont worry wont screw up this bad again hopefully.. everybody makes mistakes)

i know im a retard haha

well, when you're right...you're right... ;)

Glad it survived...i'd test the coils (with a multi-meter) just to make sure shit isn't fucked up. Also...why would a company PAIR the coils opposite eachother? I know you realize this now...but just remember...common sense even when you're in a hurry...

HAHAHAHA ok so listen to this.. i had my buddy come out here today.. and i took the sub out and looked down.. what do i see? everythings hooked up perfectly.. haha i knew i couldnt have made such a big mistake.. i mean im a newbie but not that bad..

hahah anyways it was a funny story while it lasted.. at least nobody made fun of me too bad haha..

so basically it just has weak output??

well i wouldnt say its weak.. i mean its actually fairly loud.. but not as loud as i thought it would be with all they hype the Kvs get on forums. its ported @ 30 hz, but doesnt get quite as loud as my sealed VR.. but hey for 250 with the nine.2 amp i think its one of the best deals out there.

actually lately i have been considering buying a couple.. good subs.. good sq too IMO

Ok heres a worse story that should make you feel better:

My friend scott had his system hooked up in his Alero...anyway he was losin a voice coil on one of his subs and decided to unhook it. He unhooked his NEW Phoenix Gold amp ($$$$$$) and set the wires on opposite sides of the sub box because he didn't have any tape to cap the ends. I got in my car and followed him

I soon noticed that his car was smoking after he took a hard corner. I tried to flag him down, but it took a minute or two. When he stopped, he opened the trunk and the two wires had slid under the box after the corner and were pressed together. His trunk was full of white smoke...expensive smoke from his NEW amp.

Beautiful Phoenix Gold amp...we hardly knew you

RIP it lived for 3 days

o hah ic, sorry didnt see that last post

well how does it compare to your 15" cvr then? if it has low output i might need to take it out of consideration when im lookin for subs (10"s)

well its fairly close.. but i mean the VR is an spl woofer and has lots of nonlinear excursion im sure.. actually i have done a lot of rough comparisons of woofers against my VR in winsid.. and the VR looks to get louder than a lot of whats out there, and it definately surprised the hell out of me when i heard it cause it was so cheap.. but i guess what i gained in spl i lost in sq.. and the kv.2 definately sounds better than mine.

i dont know man for the price i would keep the KV2 in your list. my buddys rear view mirror shakes pretty violently. i would say the kv.2 has more spl than most entry/mid level subs do. my VR is just an exception cause it was built to get loud.

Give me a 15 Kv2 and you keep your 15 comp vr, same amp, same vehicle...i'll sound better and be louder ;)

Anyways, glad you sed "rough comparisons" b/c winISD graphs mean jack shit in real life...and don't mean much in car. It's more made for HT or home audio purposes, and the graph is more helpful when trying to get a linear alignment. peace

yeah but regardless of whether or not you get any room gain or in this case "car gain", win isd shoudl still tell you which woofer has potential to get louder right? i mean if i put in how much power im going to send each and give it exact specs for the box, i dont see why the graph would mean "jack shit".. maybe you could explain this more?

win isd takes the parameters into consideration more than i think you would. im not doubting that the kv.2 would sound better but id say the bets on for which would get louder.

my woofer is more efficeint and is rated for more power. my woofer has more cone area.. now i wouldnt know the xsus specs for each to compare excursion but just from the stuff i know and from personally hearing both id say if i ported my box to the same specs as i did the kv2 (maybe changing cu.ft though to fit the sub better), id win in a heads up SPL in the same vehicle..

correct me if im wrong
