I just bought this car and it is getting stuck in second gear sometimes.
Of course it won't do it for the mechanic.
Mostly it happens when the car has sat overnight.
Then sometimes it doesn't.
This leads me to believe it has something to do with a temperature sensor....?
When I pull over and turn off the engine then restart it, it shifts fine
He put it on the computer and it came back with nothing at all.
Any ideas,????
I've heard these tranny's have big problems.
I do know the car had sat for a while before I bought it.
Thanks guys,

How long is "a while"? Maybe it just needs driven to work the innards some and free a sticking part up.

You're transmission's going into "limp in" mode, or safe mode. Chrysler designed these cars to shift into second, and stay there, in order to allow the owner to limp in to the dealership for service.
A couple of things you should try.
1- Change the filter (drop the pan)
2- Flush the fluid. You won't change much of the fluid by simply dropping the pan. Most of the fluid is still in the torque converter. There are many ways to flush the fluid. My favorite (because it's cheap) is to unhook the hoses that leads to the radiator and use them to pull fluid from a fresh bucket and push old fluid into a waste bucket. Five or six quarts should do it.
3- Add a conditioner to the fluid. You choose the brand.
4- Reset the computer (disconnect the battery for five minutes or so).
This all may seem like a hassle but it won't seem so when you price AT repairs!
Good luck, you'll enjoy the 94.

Okay, I need help here.
I took it to the mechanic and he replaced the input and output sensors and then later when I picked it up it did it again.
This is ridiculous.
I have never had a car that did this kind of crap.

I have no idea how long it sat, let's just say there were cobwebs on the engine..........
The computer has been reset when I put in the new alternator on Sunday after only driving it 35 miles.
Just added the Lucas last night.
I am afraid to do the flush since these tranny's are known to have seal problems. There is no leakage at this point.
I am a single parent and do not have much money to put in this car.
There are other problems with this car also.
Thanks for any help or ideas.

I have the exact same trouble happening on mine, except when mine does it all the dash gages go dead. Does yours do the same? I'm looking for help as well.
