Electrical Problems on 95 Burb

This may be a long question but here it goes. My 1995 GMC Suburban (with 5.7L) 4x4 has been having several electrical issues with the dash and with the voltage gauge. The bottom line is half of my dash lights are out (incl the radio) and my voltage gauge bounces back and forth from center line and to 9 vlts. Power is not a problem on the truck, but the voltage gauge and lights are very iritating. Plus when I place my turn signals on the voltage gauge shows a drop in voltage in concert with the turn signal light. Grounds? I have checked all fuses and they are fine. Possibly a ground issue? I am pulling the engine for a re-built later this week, may that fix the issue as well (by verifying all the electrical connections)?

Thanks in advance.

sometimes the conectors that plug into the instrument cluster get loose. take the cluster out and try wiggling the plug if that changes anything look for bent or backed out conectors, usually you can bend them enough with a small pick to fix the problem. there also might be internal problems with the cluster the easiest way to check is to swap in a different cluster.
