Service Engine Soon

my service engine soon light went on today. It has happened before but i can never figure out what it is. It only goes on when i drive long distances, and the gas peddle is held down for a long time. Does anyone know why this is happening. I hava a crack in my radiator, could this be it.

What year is your car? If you have OBDII, just go to Autozone and borrow a scan tool. It's free to use and you just follow the simple directions.

well if your engine is overheating because your out of coolant, yeah your engine light will come on..

But if not, it sounds like its probably an EGR or emmisions related problem..
Pull your codes to find out why its on..

find your OBD port, jump the top two pins farthest to the passenger side together.. and turn your ignition on (dont start the car) your codes will be relayed via the engine light

Does it flash on or just come on?

I have a 91 rs 305 and when the light comes on it just goes on. But my car doesnt overheat so i know its not that. It also started happening right after i got my exaust put on, dont know if that did anything

just pull the codes as I mentioned, that will tell you exactly why the engine light is coming on

Could be an O2 sensor... get it scanned thats the only way to tell for sure

ya i thought it might be the o2 sensor but if it was that why would it only go on sometimes and not all the time

my guess is that your going to get an EGR fault..

yeah thats what was happening with my light and it ended up being the EGR.....thats probably what it is
