Rear Hub Assembly

Has anyone ever replaced a rear hub and bearing assembly on a 2000 eclipse gt?

My right rear assembly is shot and I need to replace it.

The problem is the new hub assemblies sold by Napa, auto zone AND the Mitsu dealer are all the same. The problem is that the speed sensor wheel with the teeth on it is different from the one on my vehicle. The speed sensor wheel on my vehicle has an area on it that does not have any teeth on one edge of the wheel. This is the part that spins over the ABS speed sensor. When I try and install the new hub assembly, the teeth grind against the abs sensor because there is not enough room. I talked to one of the mechanics at the dealership and they said that they no longer make the one on my car anymore. He also said that the new ones should work and maybe there is no o-ring installed with the abs sensor causing it to protrude to far. I don’t see how a ~1mm rubber o-ring is going to make much of a difference. The eclipse repair manual says to adjust the spacing between the wheel and the sensor. Then it goes on to say that there is not way to adjust the sensor depth!??

Some questions…

Do I maybe need to buy a new ABS sensor? Maybe the newer ones are designed for the new hub assemblies… I don’t know

Does having one type of ABS setup on one wheel that is different from the other 3 cause a problem with my abs system as a whole?

How bad would grinding the ABS sensor probe down with a dremel be? This would give me the correct clearance but I don't know what that would do to the sensor's ability to work correctly.

Thanks

good question. i had the dealership replace my bearing and i have no ABS, my philosophy is the more crap on your car means more crap can go wrong
good luck on geting it fixed, the dealership would be most qualified in case something gets f*cked

and bring a fat wallet. try the dremel idea. the dealer will replace anything he can to get your green.

you said they updated the abs sensor or something...try that too. if you can, get it from autozone or mail order. again $dealer$

you should try your local junk yard or ebay too. you never know, you might be able to find a complete assembly, or atleast the parts you need for cheap. if im not mistaken, the hubs from certain 2G model might fit your car. check out dsmtrader.com or some other sites and ask around.....Good Luck!
