i flew on thursday and again on sunday. security is pretty tight. they do random searches. i had to take off my shoes so they could test them for gun powder. a few of my friends had to go into a side room and get completely felt up, basically take a physical. they have army guys at each security check and at each gate.

Its intresting how even with all this added security those blokes in the UK could just walk in to the airport and nick off with a few million dollors.
Must still need more work yet :bloated: :bloated:

I have flown several times in the past three months and will fly again this Saturday morning. Security is definately tighter at most airports. You will need to check-in at the check-in counter. There, the airline will give you your airline ticket (unless previously purchased) and will take any luggage that may be too big to carry-on to the airplane with you. Be sure to check with the specific airline regarding carry-on regulations. The FAA has set forth restrictions on items you can carry on to the airplane, including any small, concealable objects that could be used as a weapon. You will want to make a note of this list (available on most websites for major airlines) and avoid packing the prohibited items.

Expect a fair wait at the securtiy gate. You will need both your ticket and a valid ID to present to the security guards at this first checkpoint. It is common place to have armed National Guards posted both at the security checkpoint, in addition to throughout the airport terminal(s). At the security checkpoint, you will need to remove all items from your pockets, and place all carry-on items onto the conveyor belt to be scanned. Upon passing through the metal detector, one of two things will occur. You may be required to collect your personal items and proceed to your gate, preparing for depature, or you will be asked to step aside. If are asked by a security guard to step aside, they may request to go through your luggage, use a magnetic wand on you, and may have you remove your shoes for inspection. BE SURE TO COMPLY!

Once you pass inspection, you are free to proceed to the gate from which your flight is departing. You will need to check-in, once again, at the gate to collect your boarding pass. Airlines now have random searches in place right now. Whether or not you will be chosen for a random search, is determined by a code printed on your boarding ticket. If you are chosen to be searched, it only takes a few minutes and is similar to the search at the initial check-point. Once you are cleared, you'll be free to board the plane.

Don't worry about it, Chad. You'll do just fine. Enjoy your flight and keep in touch. :)
