Hello!
This is long... So please bear with me...
I have a 98 Ford Expedition XLT. (over 99,+++ miles on it).
I notice on Saturday (02/19/05) that my Battery Dummy Light was On.
So I pull over to check if the any belt's broke off or if a Battery connector was loosed, or anything out of the ordinary, Exc. The Battery post (+) was loosed so before I tight it, I took post off the battery and it turn off. I had a volt meter and I check the volts on battery 10.0 volts.
So I continue on my way home because I knew it had to be the alternator.
Any ways on Sunday morning (02/20/05) I took Original Alternator off took it to (#1) parts store got one put it in and it didn't work , still not charging. I call my brother thinking I was doing something wrong he told me I was doing everything correct. He told me it was a Bad Alternator I told him what I did. He suggested to go to any Pep Boys / Auto Zone / Strauss / exc. To have system check for FREE which I did . I was told the Alternator was Bad. So I when took (#1) alternator out and back to (#1) parts store. They told me they didn't have anymore alternator, So I got money back. When to another (#2) part store got another Alternator put it in and still wouldn't charge. I had system check again for FREE which I did . I was told the (#2) Alternator was still bad. So I when took Alternator out and back to (#2) parts store. They told me they didn't have anymore Alternator, So I got money back. When to another (#3) part store got another (#3) Alternator put it in and it took charge it works. I was thinking I was finally Done, Well not really with all this running around and all this Alternator I lost track of Pulley's on the Alternator. Any ways I had to take the Alternator out for the 4th time and replace correct pulley and reinstalled it for the 4th time. After that I park Expedition out side so I could lock the garage and guess what happened with me been so tired and upset I pull off and hit a piece of pipe and dented my bumper. What else could have happened. So before anything else happened I park it ran in the house.
That's what happened with the Alternator from hell...
The morrow of this story is have anything you buy tested first before installing it.
Thank you for your time... Al
