93 Explorer 4.0 Coolant Leak

I just bought a 93 Explorer with a 4.0, long story short, I was told that it loses coolant, a quart or so a week. Before I bought it I started it cold and there were no bubbles coming out of the radiator so I took a stab in the dark thinking it was an intake gasket. So $350.00 later I wanted an opinion on whether or not I was in the ballpark, and if there is any other way to test it without a compression test or a pressure test. I have been out of the backyard mechanic scene a few years and my tool supply has diminished! I appreciate the help.

I forgot to add that there is no coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant. Also, there is no visible collant leaking on the exterior of the engine.

I have the exact same problem. I thought maybe there was a leak in the overflow line or container, but I can't find a leak anywhere.

My 97' explorer is in the shop having the head gaskets replaced as we speak. My Explorer also showed no sign collant leaking or collant in the oil as well, But you sure could smell it. would sux it out of the reserve tank. Had local shop pressure test it(no charge) , you could see coolant leaking out onto the block very slowly. hopefully this is not whats wrong with your ford.
