New to the forum, make fun if needed lol, but i just had a few questions.
First off, my Check engine light is on, i have a 94 honda civic ex, and the guy i bought from said he took it to the honda dealer, and they said it was the o2 sensor, wat all does that effect? the vtec or nething? and in the exs, like my friend has an si , and u can hear the vtec kick in louder, or w/e at 4,500, and mine u cant much hear it, i didnt know if thats just common for a weak sohc 1.6 vtec, i have intake, i figured u'd be able to hear it more tho.. just wondering if anyone could help.

thanks

yeah if your o2 sensor is not working your V-Tech will not. It wont hurt your motor but that is somthing you should get replaced.

Had the same prob in my motor

I would say it depends what about the O2 sensor is not working.

My 95 currently has a Code 41 which is the O2 Sensor Heater Circuit.. you're saying my V-TEC won't kick in?

Yeah, surprisingly when I added intake to my Civ, it brought the vtec to life. A much bigger difference when vtec kicked in. Anywho...

The check engine light will stay on because there isn't an o2 sensor there. Or there's something wrong with it. Don't let it stay like that for too long.

As for your o2 sensor problem, you can go to a junkyard a pick one up, then go to Checker and buy a Universal one (depending on the condition of the one from the junkyard) and then just use the wires and connector from the junkyard one, cut and wire them together, then screw it in. Presto! The o2 sensor you buy from Checker, or wherever, should come with instructions on how to do it.

Or you can go to any of the Auto parts stores and see if you can buy a whole peice including the wires and connector, but it is more costly then to do it the junkyard way. Well that's from my own personal experience anyway. Happened when I added header's and the o2 sensor was ruined when it was taken off. Anyway good luck. L8...

im looking at this for the 02 sensor connected straight to his exhaust. When mine was not put in that happened but when i put mine in right it worked but still threw a check engine light because my cat is not tightly connected due to after market exhaust for a 92-95 civic connected to B18c1

there is so much bad info here it hurts......
first its vtec not vtech ( not a big deal but you understand.)
second- your vtec should work just fine without an o2 sensor. your engine wont run as nice but it will work. your gas milage will likely suck therefore run rich and not so great.
third- dont do a junkyard job of an o2 sensor, not that it wont work but you can buy a brand new bosch or whatever cheap brand for like $45 canadian so it would be a big hassle for very little.

LOL wow im about to go to work and see note on my computer from my roomate about some idiots in a 94 EX Noob forum. Well just to clear this up he doesnt know his ass from his elbow when it comes to Hondas as you can see. Im guessing he mixed up o2 sensor with knock sensor because thats a prob i had with my car and told him that my vtec didnt work and switched my p72 with a chipped p28 and solved it and the o2 sensor i still havent changed. im not saying i know alot but im not that stupid and will log out from now on since he doesnt know my password.

And the V-tech thing hahahaha omg i think ill just scratch a big H on his valve cover.

hey guys, thanks for the help, ive been outa town this week, haven't had a chance to read the forums. I guess my vtec, is kickin in, i just dont much hear it when it switchs over like most ppl say it like gets louder, like wahhh.. WAAAAHH. lol, or ya know w/e, but dunno i guess my o2 wouldnt have much to do with it from what I read, I guess i just need to replace it and see if the check engine light goes off.. is there anyone besides honda dealership that checks those codes without buying the code reader, to see what kinda code its throwing?.. thanks for the help guys

AutoZone should read it for free, all though you can do it yourself. While you are at AutoZone, you should pick up a Haynes Manual, The best mod you can get!
If you need an O2 Sensor, go on ebay, and get a good Denso for $50!

P.S. I like how you said "Make fun if needed" LOL

Autozone will only read 96 and up. At least around here.

Get a Helms Manual. It is basically a facotry Service Manual, and is much better and more in-depth than a Haynes or Chiltons. Of course, they are like $75. If you can't afford it, the other 2 are better than nothing, but seriously consider getting a Helms Manual.
