rear main seal

I am rebuilding a 4.0 sohc. The rear main seal came with a metal sleeve.I need some kind of installation help with this. :confused:

The sleeve is a crank saver. Just tap it onto the crank...carefully.

How far on the crank should I set the sleeve?
