Rim Question

Hi all,

I'm thinking of putting some 18" rims on my 2000 Mustang. A local salesman told me that 18x9" would stick-out a little, which is what I want. However I can get the rims online cheaper, but it doesn't say what the width is. It only says 18". My question is what's the normal width for a 18" rim? Also, I saw some that were 18x7.5" and was curious to know if there would be a great difference between those and the 18x9"? Thanks,

Yes it makes a difference. I made the mistake of getting 18x7.5 with 225 40 18 tires and they're tucked in too much. The wheel really looks small, especially with those size tires. I have to save up a few pennies and probably get 19x9's.

What's backspacing
The easiest way to measure backspace is to lay the wheel face down onto the ground so the backside of the wheel is facing up. Take a straight edge and lay it diagonally across the inboard flange of the wheel. Take a tape measure and measure the distance from where the straight edge contacts the inboard flange to the hub mounting pad of the wheel. This measurement is backspace. The below photo shows three wheels with 2",3", & 4" backspace.
