w150 1977 transfer case

i have a 77 w150 the drive shaft from transfer case to fornt axel broke smashed open transmission. replaced gasket and refilled tranny. if i hold transfer case in gear then shift tranny truck moves but when i shift tranny transfer pops out unless i hold it. trucks an automatic so mean when i shift from r to d or back. could the linkage just need adjustment or do i need new case? realize this is ram forum but figure ram grew from older and basics are basics thanks same 318 transmission powerwagon to ram. is there anything i need to know beyond basics as my manuel doesn't cover the linkage

From what I know there may be an alignment problem. Check to make sure that everything is aligned properly, from the shifter through the linkage and down to the mounts for the transmission and T-case.

Does it pop out of gear from the state it was in when the blowup occurred only, or from any state? What I mean is, if the blowup happened in 2hi does it only pop out in 2hi, or also 4hi and 4lo?

it pops out of any 4 h 4 l 2 h when i goto n sorry about the delay

Does sound like an alignment problem since pops out of all gears. I'd go back and take a look at what you did in the repair, make sure everything is aligned properly.

Other than that, if the problem persists I'd head to a reputable trans shop.
